Height: 6’3”

Weight: 225lb

Position: Defense

Shoots: Left

Career

Papa Gage began is a late bloomer to the game of hockey, not having picked it up until his late teens. He played in his senior year of high school at Ravenwood High School in Brentwood, TN, where he scored 7 goals and 15 points in 5 games. After graduating high school, he went on to play in the SPHL for the Knoxville Ice Bears, where he played 6 seasons, scoring 125 goals and 320 points in his time there. After last season, he was offered a deal with the Halifax 21st of the VHLM, which he happily accepted with hopes to make the VHL.

Strengths

Skating – Gage’s skating ability was lauded during his time in high school and while in the SPHL. His ability to sprint down the ice and back quickly is one of his biggest strengths. His ability to switch up directions at the blink of an eye throws many people off, given his bigger stature than most.

Defending – Boasting a long reach and exceptional positioning, Papa is able to defend against all but the shiftiest of forwards. With his long reach, he is able to sweep pucks away from attacking forwards, and very easily poke check and stick lift them as well. His positioning allows him to force the opposing team to dump the puck in instead of allowing them to skate freely into the defensive zone. Combine those with his checking abilities, and he is a very solid defender.

Checking - From his time playing in the rough and tumble SPHL, Papa has become very proficient at checking and hitting the opposing team. He led the SPHL in hits in his last season there, with 250. His size allows him to check all but the biggest of players, with even them feeling the pain after being on the receiving end of one of Papa’s famous hits.

Strength – Papa is one of the heavier players for his height, and that is due to his strength. He rarely gets hit hard enough to lose the puck or balance, and his strength allows him to have some very hard slap shots and one timers. His strength combined with his checking ability help boost his ability to force turnovers and stop players in their tracks when they enter the defensive zone.

Weaknesses
Puck Handling – Because of his size and long reach, puck handling is one of his weaknesses. He would rather pass every time than have to stick handle through a group of defenders. Due to this, he only jumps deep into the offensive zone on the power play when there is more open ice for him.

Fighting – Even coming from a league that is known for line brawls, Papa has never been much of a fighter, and when he does fight, even with his strength, he is not very good at fighting. He avoids fighting as much as he can because of this weakness.

Leadership – Papa has always been more of the quiet type when it comes to the locker room, so his leadership ability is not nearly as high as some other players. His lack of leadership has on occasion cost him chances for awards and opportunities. He is supposedly working on this though, and trying to become more of a leader in the locker room, especially since he is so much older than most of the players.

Review: A very good intro that sets the stage for everything else I read. Little confused about the mixing of bold and not bold. Not sure if that is an error in transferring the information or a deliberate choice. I also liked how you go above on the strengths and add a fourth item to show that he is a well-rounded defender at all levels of his game.

At the age of 25, I was born in Nashville  (maybe split these up a bit)

Great formatting and readability on this one, great job breaking things up and making it easy on the eyes.

Why is scoring not listed as a strength if he went over GPG pace as a defeseman?

The writing and formatting on this one are pretty good, but the content could use a bit of work. Try to make it a cohesive piece, with descriptions complementing the raw statistical information. That said, there's a lot of possibility here. Keep at it.
