Draft Team Needs

The Season 66 Draft is coming soon, so let's take a quik look at pressing team needs across the league!

Calgary Wranglers: A Veteran Center

Calgary is loaded with young talent across the board, and they could be a playoff contender as soon as next season if their young guns can take the next step towards stardom. Center is currently the weak point in their roster, and while Roll Fizzlebeef has lots of potential, he's still a couple years away from playing at a starting line level. The Wranglers will likely continue to add to their wealth of young players, but don't be surprised if you see them make a flip for a veteran center to lead their front line.

HC Davos Dynamo: Defensemen

Davos has a lot of talent at forward but could really use some help on the back side. Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen is a future star, but Alvaro Jokinen is starting to get older and Cayden Saint is better suited in a depth role. With 3 first round picks, look for them to take some shots on the top defensive talent in the draft pool early on.

Helsinki Titans: Depth

Helsinki doesn't have a first round pick this season, but fortunately for them, this draft is deep enough that their 3 third rounders could net them some prospects that develop into solid VHL players. They've got a strong starting line of Borwinn, Bailey, King, Wilson, and Crosby, but with Canmore and Slipher retiring while potentially losing Revchenko and Montgomery to free agency, they are gonna need to build their depth in a hurry if they want to continue competing at a high level.

Malmo Nighthawks: Everything

Malmo owns the rights to Lucas Nygren starting in Season 67, but outside of that, they literally have nothing on their roster at the moment. We can reassess their needs after the Expansion Draft, but they'll likely aim for the best player available.

Moscow Menace: Forwards

It's rough being an expansion team, and really they have holes all over the place, but forward stands out as their weakest link at the moment. Kyson Blake is a top contender for rookie of the year, but team officials are concerned that he may be a flash in the pan more than a long-term star, and they don't have much talent outside of their top line.

New York Americans: Cut a Deal with Malmo

New York as a talented roster but only a single 3rd round pick this season. With more talent than they are able to protect, New York might be wise to bribe Malmo with some draft picks so that they don't lose a core piece to the expansion draft.

Riga Reign: Salary Cap Relief

Riga had to give up Leph Twinger last season due to cap issues, and with 3 more first round picks in a talented draft pool, they may have to let go of another veteran star in order to keep their draftees. Don't be surprised if Randoms ends up player for another franchise next season, as he's the only one of their skaters not under a long term contract.

Seattle Bears: Forwards

Seattle went all in on the big names this season, leaving them without a ton of depth. They only have a 4th round pick this season, and both Thompson and Ironside could be key losses in free agency next season. On top of that, their 3 top forwards are all staring at regression next season, meaning they are gonna need that young talent sooner rather than later.

Toronto Legion: Draft Picks

Toronto has traded all their picks for the next two seasons, so their biggest need is getting more of them. Not trading for more of them mind you, but getting their Season 68 picks locked in as assets. Toronto needs them as fuel for a deadline deal next season after all.

Vancouver Wolves: Sign Nixon Long Term

Draft-wise, Vancouver probably should look into adding some depth at Defenseman, but overall, they need to make sure their goalie of the future is paid well and locked in for life. Iseult has started to let himself go, and with regression looming, Nixon will be the clear cut starter by Season 67 at the latest. A top goaltender can make or break a playoff team, and having a young talent on the roster already saves them the headache of trying to scour and develop and fresh draftee.
