A unique spectacle in all of sport is about to begin, the Sponsor Shield Tournament. This tournament features companies (also known as Brands and/or Sponsors) that pay players to play for them to compete for their company in a World Cup style tournament. The players enjoy the tournament because it gives them more time on the ice doing the thing they love the most, playing hockey. They also like being able to play with other players and friends they don’t normally get to team up with. Many players also relish the opportunity to get another chance to better a rival player. The fans are excited because they get to see their favorite players perform. The companies that sponsor the players really love the tournament because of the great PR and exposure they receive during the tournament.

We’re going to take a look at one of the sponsors participating in the tournament, Ferda Apparel. Ferda, a clothing manufacturer who focuses on higher end men’s ware claim to provide the “the sauciest threads around town,” is one of the two new sponsors participating in the tournament this year. Brand Executive @Nykonax  made an aggressive campaign to recruit VHL and VHLM players to his brand. This hard work appears to have paid off as the Ferda brand has assembled an impressive roster heading into the tournament.

Ferda focused their recruiting on young up and coming talent, grabbing 4 of the top 20 S66 VHL draftees including projected S66 #1 pick Hunter Hearst Helmsley. This will most likely bold well for future Sponsor Shield tournaments, but leaves them a little thin at depth for their inaugural tournament.

Ferda did splurge, using one of their $2 million slots, to acquire veteran goalie Alexander Pepper. Ferda hopes Pepper rebounds from getting pulled in an agonizing game 7 loss in the Continental Cup finals to lead the team in the Sponsor Shield tournament. Ferda will need Pepper to perform at the top of his game to succeed because their defensive corps is inexperienced. Ferda’s defenders are made up of promising young talent, including top VHL rookies, Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen and VHL shot block leader Elasmobranch Fish. They also include S65 VHLM defensive point leader and All-VHLM first team member, Denver Wolfe and one of the top S66 defensive draftees, Charlie Paddywagon.

The offensive side of Ferda looks more promising than the defensive side. Ferda was able to put together a great top line consisting of VHL stars Kronos Bailey, Veran Dragomir, and Jake Davis. Dragomir and Davis both finished in the top 10 of all point scorers in the VHL and Bailey has shown he can dominate the ice, leading the VHL in hits.  The star of the 2nd line will be another top 10 VHL scorer, Elias Dahlberg. He’ll be joined by top 10 VHL rookie winger Matthew Materazo and VHLM leading scorer, All-VHLM first team member, and unanimous #1 draft pick, Hunter Hearst Helmsley. Ferda’s third line will be comprised of VHLM standouts Maximilian Kirbsson and Kari Jurri. They will be joined by VHL rookie Matthew Kai. Defensive forward Viktor Kozlov is expected to contribute greatly to Ferda’s penalty kill unit and in end of game situations.

Ferda is hoping for a successful tournament to propel their brand to new heights. Ferda executive expectations are muted for their inaugural tournament. But quietly they are hoping for a strong performance this year with an eye on the future stars that can propel the brand to gold, and record profits, in the coming years.
