ECN’s “VHL Now!” 3rd Edition “Finals!”

Good to see you again here! ECN’s “VHL Now!” is here with its third publication and this time it will be solely focused on two teams currently fighting for the cup! Both Vancouver and Helsinki has shown great promise as they battled through 2 rounds already and now are here to show why they both deserve to compete amongst the best of VHL!

Let’s first recap how both teams did in first rounds and how are they looking coming into finals. It is quite clear that Vancouver had a bit rougher path to the playoffs as in first round it took 6 games to beat New York Americans that truly put up a good fight. The second round was tough as Vancouver had to face against the best team in North American conference. Calgary tried to do everything to push for the win in Game 7, but Vancouver's rough character and constant high-quality play lead to effective dismantle of Wranglers defence and goaltending. Helsinki had a lot easier path to victory as they didn’t have the first-round matchup. Titans met with Davos in the 2nd round and completely destroyed their hopes as Dynamo stayed through to their name and quickly packed their bags after 5 games.

Currently, we are looking at two truly amazing competitor teams. Interesting to see that Helsinki is returning to the finals after they lost to Toronto Legion last season in Game 7. It is worth mentioning that Helsinki has been an active playoff team for quite some time and has seen finals quite a bit in the last few seasons.  After the relocation in S65, Vancouver is looking to put a mark not only on their first playoff appearance in their new home town but their first finals as well.

Vancouver’s scoring has come from everyone on their roster, everyone has registered at least 1 goal. That is a great statistic to keep in mind as it clearly shows the dedication of everyone on their roster as they are ready to win right here and right now. Wolf pack’s leaders Shawn Glade, Beau Louth and Jake Davis had been well over point-per-game these playoffs and they are not showing any sign of them slowing down. Quite a lot of their success can be addressed to Roger Sterling as he has been showing top class goaltending throughout all playoffs.

When it comes to Helsinki Titans, let’s not kid ourselves – they are ready to win right here are right now. From their goaltender Alexander Pepper, who is showcasing the best goaltending these playoffs, to their highly effective defence that is showing how the defence can truly win you a championship. Even though Titans offence is not as well spread out as it is for Wolves, their top-heavy lineup with 6 players being at least point-per-game shows that you can’t mess with them or they will make you into scrambled eggs in no time.

The important question, in the end, is who do we think will be victorious?

Even though our good friend of ECN’s posts Beaviss is GM of Vancouver Wolves, we have to give our vote to Helsinki Titans and here is why:

1.     Powerplay – M.Thompson, B.Meyers, J.Borwinn, S.Crosby and K.Bailey. The lineup that is not only pure offence juggernaut but a lineup that shows individual mastery in everyone that is on the ice. You can’t leave anyone open as they will capitalize and score at ease.

2.     Kronos Bailey. Is that not enough said already? He was and still is one of the people we strongly think should be considered for Scott Boulet Trophy as the best Two-way forward in VHL.

3.     Overall team experience in playoffs. The team that has been in Finals for the third time in a row and has been waiting for their chance to hoist the cup. Continental cup has not only been their dream for all their lives, but they have seen on the ice two times already in the hands of the opposing team. We believe it will not happen again.

And that is gonna be it for us with your ECN’s coverage of S66 VHL Finals! Hold your thumbs and hope for your favourite team of those two to win as they both are facing a formidable opponent and a worthy adversary! As always, this is brought to you by Frostbeard Entertainment!
