Benny Graves is an upcoming prospect who has declared for the Season 69 VHL Draft which is in two years. While he is quite young and has a few years until he will actually play in the VHL, he is expected to be selected within the first two rounds, and likely play in the VHL the year he is drafted. Scouts have been pretty high on the young centerman, although not many expected him to join the VHL over the other top leagues around the world. Earlier this week Graves signed with the STZ Player Agency who has deep connections to the VHL - and earlier today he announced that the VHL is where he is committed to playing for the duration of his career. In this Rookie Profile we will look in depth at Graves’ strengths and weaknesses as a blue chip prospect. There have been a team of scouts who have contributed to this article.

 

 

Benny Graves is coming into the VHL as a player with huge upside. There are a number of different characteristics in Graves’ skillset that has scouts very excited. First and foremost his Size and Skating Ability is going to make him able to step into the VHL immediately. He will be able to keep up to competition as well as not be pushed around. He has had a natural scoring touch since his minor league days, and has proved with the USA National Development Program to be a very exceptional scorer. It is expected that this plays translates into success at the VHLM and ultimately the VHL level. Graves comes into the league with reserved expectations as there are many high calibre prospects in the VHLM. He looks to stand out in a group who all can score, as he tries to differentiate himself. 

 

 

Benny has a lot of things scouts are excited for however there are a couple red flags that have scouts wondering whether or not he is a top prospect, and elite prospect, or simply a serviceable player in the league. Here is where we take a deeper look at why some scouts have reservations on Benny Graves. After having 4 consecutive VHL HOF players in Osborne, Wylde, Unassisted, and DeGrath, the STZ Player Agency lost some of their swagger in Arkander and Zhields. Many scouts wonder if Graves is in the first category or the second, as the Player Agency’s Reputation is in question. Graves has always found the back of the net but many wonder if he has the vision to be an effective playmaker, which is very important as a centerman. Graves has been able to connect to his teammates but most of the time he has showcased his sense for the back of the net with his pro-level release. In the same vein, people have questioned his positional status as center as his faceoff ability has come into question as well. Some scouts have legitimate concerns with this player, while others say that he is young and those weaknesses will naturally correct themselves in time.

Review:  Nice twist on the layout.  Where many writers have more clearly labeled each strength and weakness to the left, this article incorporates the strengths and weaknesses into the body of the paragraph setting them apart with the use of color.  However, I don't see how the Player Agency's Reputation is a weakness of the player himself.  There were also some areas that could have used more editing such as, "It is expected that this plays translates into success at the VHLM and ultimately the VHL level."  His plays translates into ... - not sure what the author is trying to say here.
