Intro

 

From Saskatoon Saskatchewan, Mark grew up playing both Lacrosse and Hockey, however, eventually began to dedicate his time purely to the ice. His time in box lacrosse though did help him develop some very necessary skills. At 19 years old, his hockey career is still just taking off, however his hockey game still has long way to go before he is ready to go professional.

Strengths

Reflexes: Largely developed in lacrosse, one of Mark Davis' biggest upsides is his quik reflexes. Even when the puck bounces off someone’s stick last minute, he somehow manages to get a glove into position, and still come out with the save. 

 

Holds his ground:  Mark is firm on his skates, and doesn’t let the occasional contact intimidate him. This has allowed him to force his way into an advantageous position to cut off the angle, or get the occasional favorable call with interference. When players are cutting across the ice, he is more than willing to take a bump in order to get a poke check.

 

Rebound control:  The puck frequently seems to either just stick to him, or get tossed right where he wants it. A rebound deep into the slot, or right onto the tap of an opposing player almost never seems to happen. Secondary opportunities are rare, and plays seem to end on the first shot.

 

Weaknesses

Skating:  While he is strong on his feet, his skating leaves a lot to be desired. If he leaves the crease, he is frequently caught out of position. He also is frequently delayed getting to the puck on dump ins, including completely missing the puck on the rare occasion.

 

Mental game: When the game starts going the wrong way, Mark can have the tendency to start to collapse in on himself. A weak goal or two can lead to spiral down and making him letting in other one, leaving his team in a hole tough to climb out of, and requiring help from the remainder of the team to get him out of slump.

 

Dedication: Some have questioned Marks dedication to hockey with his high level of play in lacrosse as well. There have been a few questions of if he would switch back to lacrosse, especially if the sport became more popular. This also could tie into his workouts and training. If he is not fully dedicated to the sport, is he going to improve his game, or be available for everything the team needs off the ice.

 

Summery

Mark has the potentional to be a solid stay at home goalie, there is still a lot of questions about his game. He has a solid foundation, and skills in net to be solid throught the game, the questions about his weather he wants to be there, do bring up valid concerns. Its well known the in net, a momentatary mental lapse on or off the ice can make for a major hole tough to come out of.
