These days “Advanced” stats are all the rage. Recently I’ve been doing a little bit of data mining to throw some Corsi stats together for the Mississauga Hounds. Since this is only a VHL.com article I’m not going to go in depth. If you want a better look at some advanced stats @DMaximus has a great Media Spot on the subject.

Just a note before we get into this. The sample size for this is really small so it doesn’t mean quite as much. Also I’m getting these stats from the box score page for each game so the numbers might not be 100% accurate. That being said, here's what I’ve found out so far…

After 14 games the Hounds are sitting at a Corsi stat of -26. That means their opponents have taken 26 more shots in their offensive zone than they have in their opponents zone. That gives a Corsi For percentage (CF) of 48.85% which isn’t horrible. This number on it’s own doesn’t mean that much. It’s just interesting to see that on average opponents are getting more shots off than the Hounds.

A stat that really stands out to me is the CF percentages when the Hounds either win or lose. When they win they have an average CF of 51.98% and even more telling when they lose they have a CF of only 41.02%. It’s clear so far that when the Hounds put more shots up they win more often.

That’s it for this week. Hopefully as the season progresses the Hounds corsi only gets better. If you want to see how your VHLM team has done against the Hounds you can check out my spreadsheet.
