DangerGolding 222
Not claiming this as a VHL article, just realised it was 500 words and will post in media spots instead. As most people have seen by now it seems like San Diego are clearing house, the GM has look at the sheer strength of other teams in the upcoming season like Mexico City and Saskatoon and made the tough decision that the Marlins don't have the assets to compete at that level for a championship. Therefore players are being shipped out to various destinations in return for picks in future drafts as San Diego move onto a rebuild. Some fans will be devastated given that last seasons playoff performance was perhaps the pinnacle of the franchise in recent years, taking Vegas to a hard found 6 game series where every game was decided by a single goal. Others will see the move as a necessary component of how the league runs in cycles and that the GMs flexibility in accepting the hard truths will lead to a brighter future for the team. San Diego receives: John DuBolk Ryan Dingle S70 MEX 1st S70 MEX 2nd Mexico City receives: Markus Nygren @Devise Big hitting LW Nygren moves on to a contender in Mexico City as the Marlins snag a couple of decent picks in return. He chipped in with 9 assists and goal in limited minutes but was definitely an impact on the game in other ways with 192 hits. Mexico City receives: Daldo @Harpskii San Diego receives: Kels Mills Little RiDog S70 MIS 3rd S71 MEX 1st S71 MEX 4th The young winger Daldo joins his teammate in Mexico City as well, the backup forward provided a spark off the bench for the Marlins last season, providing 19 assists and finding the net himself 14 times. Halifax receives: King Kruul @LefLop S71 SDM 2nd San Diego receives: S71 HFX 1st Another trade see's arguably the Marlins best defensive player last season move onward to Halifax this time and the Marlins move up a round in the draft in return. Kruul lead the entire league in hits last season by a wide margin, 270 hits put him 21 ahead of the 2nd place and he's sure to shore up the Halifax defence. San Diego receives: S71 MIS 1st S71 MIS 2nd S71 MIS 4th Mississauga receives: Will Clarke @Will Arguably the biggest trade of the lot so far. Will clarke was one of the standout stars in San Diego last season and his production from the defensman spot played a huge part in the Marlins late season resurgence to make the playoffs. He had the most points of any defenceman with 37-60-97. He excels as well in power play situations, tallying up 21 of his goals in power plays, which is tied for the most in the league. Despite these moves there's a still a fair amount of talent left on the roster that we might see on the move soon, most notably the star RW Roadkill Steve @stevo, he had a stunning season from the forward spot hitting 63 goals and 65 assists. The 3rd highest point total in the league last season, there's no doubt though that there's a fairly heavy price on his head set by the Marlins GM, as talent like Steve doesn't come around often, especially as he's likely going into his last year in the VHLM. The other lesser RW on the team likely up for grabs is Raleigh Ritchie who netted 45 goals and 40m assists last year after making significant strides since coming back from injury in the off-season last year and is making some name for himself despite being selected 61st in the S68 VHL draft.
