Analysis

Welcome to the offseason! With the first player movement after trading has opened, the Helsinki Titans have made a move to secure the free agency rights of Erik Draven from the Prague Phantoms. Considering the player was unlikely to re-sign with the Phantoms, this was about the best-case scenario for Prague to recoup some assets out of their departing top winger. For Helsinki, giving up a few relatively low value picks to secure a strong young winger in the form of Draven makes a lot of sense. Considering Draven has already penned a two year, $3,500,000 AAV contract with the Titans, they have locked down a future piece to help with the transition as their current core retires, while still being able to compete now, as Draven rounds out their winger depth quite nicely.

Get-to-Know the Players

Erik Draven @Jbeezy76

The only player involved in the trade, Draven has been a key part of the Phantom offence in their two seasons of existence. He finished S69 as their leading points scorer with 59 points on a team high 39 assists, and at a team leading 27.46 average minutes per game, he will certainly be sorely missed by Prague in the future. Draven is a two-way player that isn’t afraid to lay down the body, having registered over 160 hits in his first two VHL seasons, a trend that has continued from his time in the minors at Yukon, where he had 179 hits in his only full season in the VHLM. At Yukon, Draven put up similar numbers to the VHL, with 59 points in S67, so there is no question of his ability to replicate his game in the big leagues. It will be interesting to see how he will react when he is no longer the team’s number one goal-scoring option, but being fed by the likes of Kronos Bailey will surely boost anyone’s output. For now, we will have to wait and see.
