Brrbisbrr 207
Davos Hockey Weekly After a strong start, this week saw Davos slip to the bottom of the VHL. HC Davos Dynamo finished the week with a 3-10-1 record. The two bright spots were wins against DC, the latter win being a 6-0 shutout. The second win against the Dragons gave goaltender Samuel Ross VHL career highs in wins (7) and shutouts (2). The offense was running like the most efficient of machines, scoring 6 goals on 16 shots, led by John Madden’s four points (1 goal 3 assists) and Matthew Materazo’s hat trick. Materazo added an assist for his 4th point of the night as well. Fernando Jokinen led defensemen with three assists. The Davos offense this year has been rather top heavy, carried by Matthew Materazo and John Madden. Materazo leads the team in goals (19), points (34), and hits (117). Madden is second on the team in points (30) and assists (16). A big surprise this seasons has been Anthony Matthews. After being considered nothing more than some trade fodder by Riga, he has found an offensive spark. Matthews currently is tied for the team lead in assists with Fernando Jokinen. Both players have 17 assists. On the defensive side of the ice, it hasn’t been a very positive experience for Davos. The Dynamo are currently dead last in the league with 101 goals allowed. Samuel Ross struggled in most of his starts this week as his goals against average has ballooned to 2.71. In his last two starts, however, he has made 65 saves on 66 shots. Fernando Jokinen scored his first goal of the year this week and is second on the team in blocked shots (51) and first in +\- (+5). Tony Bolonee leads the team in blocked shots with 61. For the rookies, Shawn Glade, Jr is holding his own in the VHL. He has 5 points and 38 shots blocked on the year. While certainly not the gaudy numbers he put up in the VHLM, they are still solid numbers considering the rebuilding state of Davos. Nikita Kulikovich is having another good year in the VHLM with San Diego. The 6’4” 197 pound Kulikovich is improving on his overall game, closing in on career highs in points and blocked shots. He also has a +38 this season. Originally touted as a shut down defenseman, Nikita has developed into a steady two way defenseman in the VHLM. Goaltender Samuel Ross just got word that he was selected to represent team USA at the world juniors for the second time. This time, however, he is looked at as the starter. After an impressive VHLM campaign with Ottawa, Ross found himself as a backup to blossoming VHL start and former Ottawa team mate Raymond Bernard. That team underachieved by Ross’ standards as he looks for redemption this time around. “I really thought with so many Ottawa players having just come off of a championship that we would have a better showing. There’s no under estimating teams this time around for me though. I’ll be ready.” Shawn Glade, Jr. will also join Ross on team USA.Andrej Petrovic earned a spot on the World team, Fernando Jokinen on team Europe and Nikita Kulikovich for team Asia. That’s all for this week. Here’s to hoping HC Davos Dynamo’s strong finish to the week carries over as we amass the halfway point of the season. Doomsday 4,145
It warms my heart to see Davos getting the love and care it deserves once again. This is not a team that will be down for long!
