Landry Lineage Returns To VHL

 

PRAGUE - 31 seasons ago, all the way back in Season 40 of the VHL, Thomas Landry's VHL career was coming to an end. After a career spent primarily as the captain of a powerful HC Davos Dynamo team that went to four straight Continental Cup Finals, winning two, Landry's last season was spent with the Calgary Wranglers. Although it was a memorable season that ultimately fell short of another title, his time in Calgary led to the following moment:

 

"With the fifth overall selection in the Season 71 VHL Entry Draft, the Prague Phantoms select Thomas Landry II, left wing, of the San Diego Marlins."

 

With Prague General Manager Jason Glasser (@diamond_ace), who led the Season 40 Calgary Wranglers that Landry Sr had played for, selecting Landry II, the Landry lineage finally returned to the VHL. 

 

 

"I'm really excited to be heading to Prague," said Landry II, the Season 70 Matt Bentz Trophy winner, in an interview conducted by the MSFL Times on draft day. "Not only do I get to join a team where I can step in and contribute right away, but I get to play for a general manager in Jason Glasser that my father played for. That's a pretty awesome way to start your VHL career."

 

Although official depth charts and lines haven't been released, the off-season departure of Blake Laughton in free agency all but guaranteed that Landry II will be on the team's second line. The Phantoms will likely be leaning on him to replace the physical presence brought by Laughton, which Landry II certainly will be all too happy to provide. But with the steep learning curve of transitioning to the VHL from the VHLM, the real question will be how much Landry II will be able to contribute offensively. Fortunately, even if he doesn't have the puck, there's no question he won't be able to make an impact as a rookie.
