DC Competing Among Top Teams

The DC Dragons were set to be an interesting question mark heading into the season. While they didn't exactly sell the farm in an attempt for a Cup, the situation worked out for them where they would likely be taking a step forward from a playoff fringe team to more of a playoff fighting team for Season 71. A lot of their core of offensive players were starting to come into their own, and coming off the franchises first playoff berth in S70 there was hope with the pickup of FA goalie JB Rift as a comparable competitive starter, that DC could do a bit more damage this season.

While early on the actual results have been mixed, overall DC sits one point behind Prague, Moscow and Calgary as up until this point now real true contender has emerged from a dominant regular season perspective. Moscow still looks like a strong team, Prague is having a much overdue surge and somehow Calgary is finding a way with a aging but still competitive roster. For the Dragons, they've seen some solid performances from Mikko Altonen, George Washington and Luciano Valentino, and a okay job from starter JB Rift but in general a big reason the team finds themselves in the mix is due to it's hard swings. When the team has lost, they have lost in some big stinkers. As a team they've only scored one more goal than they've gave up. But the team has had some impressive wins to match the stinkers, and in general there is almost a Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde aspect to how the team and some of it's key players have performed. It'll be interesting to see if DC can find some level of consistency, and build upon some huge wins over notable teams, and continue to fight for the top spot in the NA as the season rolls on.
