The Roberts for Klingberg deal was a interesting one to say the least. I don't know why this trade happened, maybe because Roberts had no interest in being in Calgary so GM Austin Gow got what he could for him and well, Klingberg was a very good get. The Roberts agency also had or still has a very short life span when it comes to the VHL, retiring early and such, maybe that wasa problem too. Also I can't remember what the username for Komarov is. Season 49 Regular Season - 72 GP | 9 W | 57 L | 6 OTL | 24 P | 87 GF | 264 GA Yikes, just when you thought Season 48 was bad, Season 49 for the Calgary Wranglers said hold my beer. This is what happens to compete in the VHL so you aren't stuck in no mans land. I guess that is a lot easier to do back then when there were so few teams in the VHL compared to now. The Wranglers went full Pittsburgh Penguins in 1984 when they tanked for Mario. Nothing more to see here or talk about for this season at all really. Their top scorer scored 39 points. Season 49 Playoffs - N/A Did not qualify. Trades (off-season): To (S45) G - Ariel Weinstein To S52 CGY 1st (D Grigory Kopralkov) S50 CGY 2nd (D Keith Sampson III) S52 CGY 2nd (LW Austin Hickey V) Calgary Wranglers GM: Austin Gow New York Americans GM: Ron Dayne III @Tagger Now here was the big trade for Calgary. New York had no need for a goalie or was going to enter a rebuild I assume, so Calgary swooped in a nailed down one of the most if not the most important position in hockey. It was a steep price of a 1st and 2 2nds all owned by Calgary, who at the time just had a 9 win season, so GM Gow was betting heavily on himself to turn it around before Season 52. Awards: N/A Overall: Overall, it was a rebuilding year where Gow and Calgary were basically just there. I wouldn't doubt that Gow and co didn't even show up to all the games this season, just phoned it in. Nothing of note changed on the player stats page. CGY ran with CPU goalies all year. Hopefully Season 50 has more to report than this season. Only Ted Doughty has a future on this team form this Season 49 roster. RomanesEuntDomus 442
Review Nice blast from the past, pretty funny that this was one of the first articles I stumbled upon and it is from right about the time that I was last around. Hope you are doing well too ! Calgary was a franchise I respected quite a bit back in the day but those kinds of big tanking seasons always suck. Are teams still forced to do them as much nowadays as they had to back then or is it a bit of a thing of the past?
