Greg_Di 1,028
Tom Eagles recently ended his short 19 game stint with the San Diego Marlins. He finished the season with 0 goals, 9 assists, 27 hits and 32 shots blocked. He also amassed 20pim and was -11. This was a good introduction for Tom as to what to expect in the VHLM. Tom took the time in this shortened season to get used to the VHLM style of play and adjusting to bigger and faster players then what he was usually used to. The season could have gone a little better but for Tom, this was more of a conditioning stint in order to be prepared for a full VHLM season next season. Tom was able to see what aspects of his game he needed to work on and will be using the off-season to improve. " It was definitely a fun season playing in San Diego, even though we weren't a playoff contender, the ice time has helped me get into the swing of things" Tom said " I wish I would have scored a goal but that can wait till next season. I was happy with my defensive play and was also happy that I helped contribute with a few assists over the short playing time. I now know I have to improve on my offensive side to be a more consistent player on both ends of the ice" Tom has promised to be more of an offensive threat next season as he believes his defensive game so far has been solid. He always puts his body on the line and is great in his own zone. When it comes to the offensive zone he definitely needs some work and that will be his sole focus heading into the off-season. Tom will be working with an offensive trainer in the off-season to help improve his shot from the point. He has hired a trainer to work with him 5 times a week starting next week and this will last until the first puck drop next season. He didn't believe he needed help with passing as he was very effective with his passing skills. Tom will be entering the dispersal draft next season, so he does not know where he will be playing yet but he hopes he will be back in San Diego. " I had lots of fun there and that is where my dad played " Said Tom " I would love to come back next season and help San Diego get back into the playoffs. The management and coaching staff there is great and I am hoping they saw enough value in me to hopefully bring me back" Wherever he ends up next season, the one goal on his mind is to make the VHLM playoffs. " It's something I would definitely like to experience before making the jump to the big leagues" Said Tom " Making the playoffs will show all the scouts how well I do in big game situations. In my opinion this is where I thrive and play the best type of hockey, in those big game, playoff situations" DMaximus and DoktorFunk 2 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/93906-tom-eagles-ends-short-vhlm-sting/ Share on other sites
RomanesEuntDomus 442
Review Nice read and good to see that you enjoyed your stint and saw it as something valuable for your progression despite the statline. Which just makes me even more sad that no team wanted to pick me up for the playoffs even ina just a 4th pairing role. But yeah, I enjoy these character-centric pieces and your choice of picture worked well to underscore the tone of the article, so good job. Looking forward to where you go in the Draft and what you can do next season! 8.5/10 Edited October 26, 2020 by RomanesEuntDomus Greg_Di 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/93906-tom-eagles-ends-short-vhlm-sting/#findComment-789937 Share on other sites
