RomanesEuntDomus 442
Robin Galante Nilsson Junior Review Welcome to Robin Galante Nilsson's Junior Review. Today we will tell you a little bit about the Swedish Defenseman and his career so far up to the point where he decided to join the VHLM less than a week ago... Robin Galante Nilsson was born in the small Swedish town of Storvreta, which is about 15km from the city of Uppsala, the fourth largest city in Sweden. He started his hockey career in his hometown, loving the sport from the moment he first picked up a stick - however, ice hockey wasn't his only love early on. There is another hockey variation called Floorball or Innebandy that is big in Sweden and a number of other European countries, particularly Finland, Czechia and Switzerland, which Robin picked up as a young kid as well and played a ton. In fact his Floorball career started even earlier than his ice hockey career as it is easier for young kids to pick up the sport, so he was already running around hitting a Floorball at just four years of age whereas he didn't start Skating and picked up ice hockey on a team level until he was seven. Robin continued to play both sports simultaneously, alternating between them a bit. His hometown of Storvreta was home of one of the biggest and most successful Floorball teams in the country and he got to play both in their youth system and watch the men's team play a lot as a kid, watching them win multiple Championships along the way. He could literally walk to practice and to the games from his house whereas the nearest ice rink and successful ice hockey team were a bit further away, so Floorball was a bit more of a priority for him early on in life. However when playing himself, it became apparent to his coaches and scouts as Robin grew older that he was actually more talented as an ice hockey player than as a Floorball player. Even with relatively few practice time he started to perform really well against his opposition and become one of his teams best players on the hockey rink, compared to the Floorball field where he was only an average player in the Storvreta youth system even though he practiced five teams a week already as a ten-year old. It was at that time that his hockey coach approached Robin's parents, telling them that he saw a lot of potential in Robin but that he would only be able to tap into it if he focused more on his hockey career. This led to some long hard conversations and soul searching for Robin and his parenty but ultimately they decided to take the Coaches advice and concentrate on Hockey full time. Robin remained a huge Floorball fan but reduced his training time, leading to him being cut from Storvreta soon after and joining a smaller local team where he would only go on to play recreatively in his free time. After a long and grueling sommer workout at just thirteen years old, the Coach that had convinced Robin to change sports took him to tryouts for Almtuna IS, the biggest hockey team in nearby Uppsala which were playing in Allsvenskan, Sweden's second division, at the time. Robin impressed the scouts there even as a relatively raw player and Almtuna decided to take him on as a junior player. Over the next few years, Robin progressed steadily through Almtuna's junior system. He only played in a relatively small role early on, coming into the team late and as a player with not as much experience and training hours under his belt as many of his peers. But he quickly caught up to his teammates and his talent became obvious as he also started taking on a leadership role after his first season, being named an Assistant Captain at fifteen and then becoming Team Captain the year after. His team went all the way to the Junior Finals in his first year as Captain and while Robin wasn't the highest scoring player on the team at the time, it was still enough for the Coach of Almtunas Men's Team to offer him to join the Pro team's practice for next season. If he did well in summer camp then he would get a pro contract as well and could see some ice time for Almtuna, he told him and Robin was excited to take on that opportunity. That is, until he received a call from the VHLM one night...
