Cologne Express Prospect Watch - Part II

Welcome to part two of the Cologne Express Prospect Watch! After taking a look at all the Season 37 draftees last week, we now turn our attention to the players that were drafted last offseason, in the Season 38 Entry Draft. We hope that you will enjoy the read!

Dimothenis Vlasis – Turku Outlaws

Dimothenis Vlasis, the 4th overall selection in the last draft, might have been the most impressive player in the VHLM this last season. He put up more than two points per game as a defenseman and led the entire league in assists playing for a strong Turku Outlaws team, where he dominated the league offensively together with Dexter Morgan and Koji Yamazaki. In 70 games Vlasis was able to score a total of 173 points, 124 of them being assists and while he wasn’t the most active hitter on his team (93 hits), he did his due defensively by blocking 122 shots. The young Greek has all it takes to be a great offensive defenseman at the next level and fans in Cologne are eagerly awaiting his arrival on the team next season.

Steve Tremblay – Moscow Red Wolves

Right now it looks like the Season 38 Draft could turn out to be a big success for the Cologne Express as the team’s second Top-5 pick, Steve Tremblay, is having just as good a season as Dimothenis Vlasis. Tremblay currently sits 2nd in the VHLM in goals with an impressive 97 markers while his 165 points are also good for 3rd in the league. The diminutive forward surprised quite some experts this season by outscoring his highly touted draft-eligible teammates Jackson Miller and Aksel Thomassen by a wide margin. For a player his size Tremblay has been quite involved in the physical department as well and has shown a more and more complete game recently. Like Vlasis he will enter the VHL next season, where the Express’ fans can’t wait to see what the dynamic forward can do at the next level.

Ashton Galbraith – Minot Gladiators

Not as big of a success-story so far has been Ashton Galbraith. The Express knew what they were getting when the drafted the highly talented forward who was quite upfront about his commitment issues and so far Galbraith has failed to work through them. He doesn’t have a lot of training hours to his name but at least he has been a bright spot on an underwhelming Minot Gladiators team. Through 72 games he sits at exactly 100 points, leading his team in both goals (38) and assists (62). Galbraith still has plenty of time to develop into a VHL-player, but as of now it looks unlikely that he will make it on the VHL-roster next season.

Leo Tesla – Ottawa Lynx

First of all: How great of a name is Leo Tesla? And the guy carrying that name doesn’t just sound awesome, he also plays and awesome style of hockey. Tesla has been the star of the Ottawa Lynx this season, where he scored 82 times and added 70 helpers for 152 points. On an up and down Lynx team Tesla also has by far the pest plus-minus (+31), which shows that he isn’t just a one-dimensional player but also knows how to take care of business in his own end. It is still up in the air what will happen with Tesla next season, he should be VHL-ready by the time training camp comes around but according to rumors out of Cologne, Tesla has expressed the wish to play in the VHLM for another season. Now it depends on Colognes roster needs and Tesla’s performance in camp if this will actually happen.
