Hex Universe 253
Welcome back to Critiquing the Crests right here on VHL.com, your source for all things VHL. Today we will be critiquing the crest of our first VHLM team. They are only team below the US border and have a very unique logo to boot, the Mexico City Kings of the VHLM. Alright let's start with the general color scheme of the logo. Red, Tan/Sand, Black, and White I would say fits with a Mexico team, giving it a sort of desert like feel to it. How the colors are utilized also make the logo pop incredibly well. Now to the design, I also like how the Native here is reaching for something, giving the logo a very unique looking perspective. Also, unlike the logo of London United from last week, this logo is sleek but also straight to the point and keeps it clean of any unneeded elements. One other thing, you may look at this logo and go "What does a Native have to do with "Kings?", and well it's simple actually. The Mayans, actually, did have a "divine king" who was essentially their supreme ruler as well as their mediator between the people and the gods. So whoever made this logo actually had the knowledge of this fact and used it to make a name for a Mexican team that people could actually learn more from it. Now all of that makes the Mexico City Kings logo a very well made and a very well though out crest. Which I am gonna score it a solid 9/10 for and it's one of the best logo designs currently in use. 273 Words --------------------------------- Although, there is one thing that is bugging me. Which is the very use of a Native on a logo at all. Now I'm sure most of the people reading this are aware of the ongoing controversies and discussions about Native imagery being used in sports. Many people would look at this logo and say "You all need to change this logo now!". Now I do not know whether I myself would find this logo to be a negative slant against Natives, nor do I believe I should have a say in so since I am not of any Native descent. Just keep this in mind for the future, because as much as I think the logo is very well made and thought out, that doesn't make it non-controversial to some.
