With half the season coming up during the week I wanted to take as strong look at who are the best twenty players in the VHLM by conference this season so far and would most likely be selected to an All star team of the mid season break. So I decided to keep this as simple as I could so I went with the standard East versus West All star team selection system with one player selected from at least each team.

So here are the rules that I created when selecting my All stars for Eastern and Western teams in the VHLM this season:

  • 12 forwards – 6 defence and 2 goalies (All team must be represented by at least one player)
  • Western Conference (Mexico City Kings, San Diego Marlins, Saskatoon Wild, Las Vegas Aces, Yukon Rush and Huston Bulls)
  • Eastern Conference (Philadelphia Reapers, Miami Marauders, Halifax 21st, Mississauga Hounds, Minnesota Storm and Ottawa Lynx)

So without dragging this out any longer here is selection for the Eastern Conference All star team:

Eastern Conference All Stars Season Seventy Five

Goaltenders:

Team  Name  GP Wins Loses Ties Save% GAA SO
Philadelphia (74) G - Jacob Carson  24 19 4 1 0.903 2.44 2
Halifax (75) G - Mike Sterling  22 10 10 2 0.885 2.98 5

Comments:

This was one of the hardest selection to be made while going through two different teams as Thadius Sales was more then deserving for the one of the two positions with 23GP 12 wins 11 loses 0 ties 0.897 save% and 2.86 GAA with 1 shutout but Halifax Mike Sterling is playing on a team that is rebuilding and has posted an impressive five shutouts this season. Jacob Carson was consensus selection as he leads the league in most of the categories at the time of selection process.

Defence:

Team Name GP G A Pts Plus/Minus PIM
Philadelphia (75) D - Jolly Greene Giant  27 9 21 30 29 28
Halifax (75) D - Clinton Giftopoulos  28 12 17 29 -13 38
Minnesota (76) D - Ron World Peace III  26 10 19 29 -7 50
Mississauga (75) D - Gustav Hjalmarsson  27 4 23 27 0 4
Philadelphia (76) D - Tom Eagles  27 6 21 27 18 30
Philadelphia (76) D - Robin Galante Nilsson  27 2 24 26 16 32

Comments:

Again this was a hard selection to make as majority of the players have very little between them through the top nine defenders in the Eastern Conference with Halifax Rick Osman, Miami Chicken Wing and Mississauga Feenixx Rising just missing the selection list. Tom Eagles and Robin Galante Nilsson are both draft eligible this season making that much more impressive that they are having impact seasons.

Forwards:

Team Name GP G A Pts Plus/Minus PIM
Philadelphia (75) LW - Addison McLaren  27 23 26 49 24 48
Halifax (75) LW - Dolant Fertitta  28 25 23 48 15 14
Philadelphia (75) C - Robert Bouchard  27 17 30 47 27 0
Philadelphia (74) RW - Darius Marimoto  27 13 30 43 23 2
Minnesota (76) C - Joseph Sharkton  24 14 22 36 -8 18
Miami (75) LW - Cabe McJake  27 19 16 35 12 10
Halifax (73) RW - Theodore James St Louis  28 15 18 33 10 22
Miami (74) RW - Peter Louis II  27 13 19 32 19 16
Mississauga (76) LW - Eeli Rantanen  27 16 16 32 -15 12
Mississauga (75) C - Jordan Tate  27 14 17 31 2 24
Mississauga (75) RW - Dan Dan  27 19 11 30 0 24
Ottawa (74) LW - Maksim Yakolevsky  27 15 11 26 -13 12

Comments:

Two really standout selection in the process are that of Joseph Sharkton of Minnesota Storm and Mississauga Hounds Eeli Rantanen as they both are draft eligible at the end of the season as the Eastern All stars are lead by the three powerhouse forwards from the Philadelphia Reapers in Addison McLaren, Robert Bouchard and Darius Marimoto but more impressive is the stat line of Dolant Fertitta among the Reapers players. Simply solid.

Western Conference All Stars Season Seventy Five

Goaltenders:

Team  Name  GP Wins Loses Ties Save% GAA SO
Mexico (74) G - Markus Emerson Jr  26 20 3 3 0.906 2.35 1
San Diego (74) G - Michael Olson  27 18 8 1 0.896 2.61 2

Comments: Two veteran goaltenders in the VHLM that are clearly leading the way for their teams in the Eastern conference with Markus Emerson Jr also leading the league in GAA at the time of the selection. While San Diego's’ Michael Olson has been solid with 2.61 GAA.

Defence:

Team Name GP G A Pts Plus/Minus PIM
San Diego (75) D - Cowboy Prout  27 10 24 34 12 43
Mexico (69) D - King Kruul  28 6 26 32 14 57
Mexico (75) D - Kevin Wu  28 10 21 31 12 30
San Diego (75) D - Scotty Kaberle  27 10 21 31 -3 22
Yukon (74) D - Tee Pee E II  27 3 23 26 2 26
Saskatoon (76) D - Battre Sandstrom  27 10 14 24 12 30

Comments: Notable selection are King Kruul as the veteran presence on the Mexico City Kings and now the Western All Stars, while Battre Sandstrom shows his draft potential by being selected for the All star team.

Forwards:

Team Name GP G A Pts Plus/Minus PIM
Saskatoon (73) LW - Florent Vericel  27 12 28 40 11 12
Mexico (75) RW - RJ Thatcher  28 17 20 37 14 6
San Diego (75) C - Nero Endrizzi  27 11 24 35 12 12
San Diego (76) RW - Red Lite  27 18 17 35 11 12
Saskatoon (75) C - Steve Eso  27 13 22 35 8 18
Huston (75) LW - Dominic Gobeil  28 17 16 33 -2 18
Las Vegas (74) LW - Angel Wachiure  27 15 17 32 5 8
Mexico (76) LW - Magnus Verlander  28 12 20 32 10 12
Mexico (75) RW - Justin Lose  28 15 16 31 9 24
Yukon (75) LW - Vick Fairchild  27 11 20 31 -8 20

Comments: Youth being severed in the West as the forwards are selected with Red Lite and Magnus Verlander being selected to represent the Western All stars. While another Veteran in Florent Vericel also leads the way for the West. Very balanced scoring throughout the Western All Stars as majority are all within a few points of each other at the time of selection.

Thank you if you have read this far and I hope that everyone takes the time to recognize all the players that have been listed above as they are more then deserving of being selected. (1043 words)

Love this not just because my name was mentioned, but thanks for including me! Well written and very nice formatting while explaining your selections ind a short and concise manner plus some nice graphics, this one looked and felted really good. It was engaging for the players involved and also included some statistical work, so good job on that front! Only thing that was slightly off was the spacing at the start of the article, plus it could have used a bit more written out text in general when it came to the actual selections.

I thought this was a great read. As a teammate & linemate (MEX) of Justin Lose, I absolutely agree with this decision for him being on there. The dude has got game. Regarding the media spot; it was excellently written, the graphics were amazing, and I love the stats you threw in there. I'd love to keep reading these as it comes down to the end of the season! My only suggestion would maybe give a little bit of insight on some of the players. Just a quick sentence or two and that would really put it over the top!

9/10
