                                           The Vladamir Komarov Story

Growing up as a child in Omsk Russia wasn’t always easy for Komarov whose family could barely afford to feed the young child let alone allow him to play sports. Komarov for years watched the boys skate around the ice rink hoping one day he too could play hockey. It was the only thing he cared for his whole life his dream was to be a superstar. However he felt that dream was going to be an impossible feat till the age of 12 when that all changed.

The young Russian was coming home from school one day an saw smoke coming from his street he ran as fast as he could to see what happened. Living in a poor area even a small fire caused major issues with how close houses were he got to his street to see his house burning down in front on him.  He screamed for his parents but there was no reply. He kept screaming looking everywhere for them before the fire department showed up. They grabbed the young boy an went to extinguish the fire they eliminated it an went inside the houses there they found his parents. They were not able to escape and were killed by someone who had fallen asleep well cooking in the house beside them.

From that day forward his life changed he entered foster care which leads to him being adopted by a younger Russian couple who were unable to have kids of their own.  This family moves him to St Petersburg where he goes off to a proper school and he gets his first real shot at playing hockey. He tries out for his school team at first but not having skated before, or even played the game of hockey he is a quick cut. Now however he has the tools he needs to follow his dream. He works hard for 4 years learning how to skate, pass, shoot. He grows bigger and stronger finally at the age of 17 he joins his first official league.

He joins the SKA St Petersburg junior squad at 17 and from there he started to hone his game he was a feared player he plays with an edge and he was never afraid to drop the gloves. He was praised for his shut down ability and quickly became one of the best defensive defenders in Russia. He won’t ever be an offensive force in any league he plays in he will provide a defensive presence like no other.  From there he went on to play for the big team an ended up capturing the league’s best defense man award in his rookie season as SKA St Petersburg went on to win the title. Winning this award was unheard of as a rookie let alone as an 18 year old kid who just started playing hockey at 13 years old. He has come a long way a decided that despite being a hit in Russia he wanted to come over to play in North America this season as he looks to make a name for himself in the VHL.

However before he heads over to North America he will get to represent his country in the Ivan Hlinka and looks to be a lock to make Russia world junior squad next season. For a kid whose only played hockey for 6 years this is a rather impressive accomplishment and this true underdog story could be one to watch as it unfolds over in North America he’s the type of player fans love.

Here are his career stats in the 2 seasons he played over in Russia. The offensive totals aren’t what jump out to most scouts it’s his raw ability to shut down team’s top player that has scouts in the VHL salivating over his skill set coming to the VHL.  However you look at it if Komarov can keep developing at the pace he has since he started hockey he could become a top 2 defender in the VHL. At the age of 19 he will soon find out if he has what it takes to become a top defender in the VHL or if he will fly back to Russia where he will be treated as a god.

Career stats

SKA St Petersburg JR GP 50 4G 15A 19P +30 180H 40SB 184PIMs

SKA St Petersburg GP 52 5G 20A 25P +31 190H 45SB 192PIMs

For those looking to draft Vladamir Komarov they are going to get 3 big things. The first is a defender who is not afraid to mix it up with opponents and protect his teammates. He’s a tough customer and he won’t back down from a fight if need be. Next up links again to being a tough customer he’s a strong big player who likes to check a hit he is smart with that however and does not chase out of position to make a big hit. Last but not least is his ability to shut down opponents if he is not using his body to check an opponent off the puck he’s just as quick with his stick. He is just always in the right spot defensively and as he grows he will be a force to be reckoned with. His defensive game is uncanny an compared to the likes of Shea Weber, and Duncan Keith.

He does come with cons however he’s not perfect and given he’s only played hockey for 6 years this is no surprise. His first con is he does not think offense he won’t produce much of anything from the back end if your team is looking for a power play quarterback look elsewhere he won’t be it. Next is his puck skills he is not very nifty with the puck he generally is good at getting it off opponents sticks but carrying it he won’t do he tries to get rid of it as quick as he can to avoid turn overs. However this is a skill he hopes to work on as his game grows.  Last but not least is his skating he has been working hard on it since day one but he needs a professional teacher he’s gone as far as he can learning on his own in this area. This is the area Komarov has been quoted on being the weakness he wants to work on the most as he doesn’t want to be blown past because he can’t keep up with the faster forwards as this would hinder his upside. His size means if he can work on this area he could easily be a top 2 shut down defender for many years to come.

Nice job man, its great that your putting so much effort in already.

The only thing I would change/add here before it gets graded is that there needs to be some pros and cons of Vladimir. Look around at some of the other bios of inspiration if you need it :)

Overview- 3/3 - Good and in depth, I enjoyed it.

Grammar- 1.5/2 - Lots of minor issues, but the two big things to watch out for are run on sentences, and present/past tenses. There were a number of sentences that need a comma, or even could have been broken into two or more sentences. Also make sure that the tense of the word makes sense. You didn't works three years ago, you worked three years ago, etc. Some issues:

cared for his whole life his dream -> cared for his whole life, his dream

 till  -> until

in front on him -> of

it an went -> and
asleep well cooking -> while

He works hard -> worked

kid whose only played -> who has

Presentation- 1/1 - Works for me.

Pros- 2/2 - Looks fine.

Cons- 2/2 - Looks good here too.

Overall- 9.5/10
