  1. As we head into the final week of the VHL season – the duo Mac Atlas and Jimi Jax can look back and be proud of their accomplishments from the past season.

While neither player is amongst the league leaders in statistics, both are spearheading the incredibly consistent score-by-committee playstyle the Legion have implemented all season. After a tough start to the season which saw the Legion sitting 2nd last in the conference for an uncomfortable amount of time, the system clicked in and saw the team put together wins over the latter two thirds of S90 which included a 13-0 winning streak.

“It honestly did not feel like that many games – we were just committing to playing the way we wanted to, and it eventually paid off” said Jax after practice on Saturday.

“This is the way we want to win games – we don’t need to rack up points, just play a team game. We think this style translates well in the tight checking games you see in the playoffs”.

After a disappointing end to a stacked team last season – Jax says there’s no lessons to learn. “It’s a tough league – we just gotta keep playing our game hopefully with some luck it pays off”.

(2 TPE for answering all six questions)

    1. What is one goal you have for yourself for S91?

    2. Do you think Toronto will make the playoffs again in S91?

    3. What area did you work on the most this off-season?

    4. Who's your preseason pick to win the Continental Cup?

    5. Who's your preseason pick to lead the Legion in points?

    6. Who's your preseason pick to lead the Legion in goals?

    1. Score more goals and play better defense. I'd like to work on my two-way game and potentially challenge for the Boulet.

    2. It's looking dicey right now but we have  good group. We just need to pull a streak together and get right back in the hunt.

    3. Definitely my shot and defensive coverage. I worked with our assistant coach on positioning and man coverage in our own zone. I also felt like a better shot would help us score more.

    4. I put in my predictions that LA will take it. They have a pretty stacked roster that works together.

    5. Our captain Atlas - he has the highest ceiling of us all.

    6. I think Atlas is in the running for this as well - he is more of a shooting center anyways.

  6. Jimi Jax is off to one of the best starts of his VHL career, but his teams record is overshadowing the personal success. The Toronto Legion are 2-6-0 on the season, a record that looks worse than it should be after a handful of close losses. Despite being 7th in the NA conference, their even goal differential ranks 4th.  Jaks currently has 11 points in 8 games which is currently leads the Legion but not within the Top 20 scorers in the lead. The American forward believes the team will be just fine as the season goes on.

“I think we’re getting some tough bounces to start off. It’s been all close games here and sometimes it doesn’t go our way… well it’s been mostly not going our way”.

On top of that, he’s still not satisfied with his personal performance.

“It’s year 5 now and I’ve yet to crack amongst the top scorers. I think I’m capable of bringing a lot more and that should carryover to team success”.

    1. We have a modest 6-3-0 start to the season, how are you feeling about that?

    2.  Is this one of the strongest Euro Conferences we've seen in a long time?

    3.  With the significant amount of change to the team, how has it been so easy for the new players to adjust?

    4.  With AK leading the team in scoring, is hedge literally putting the team on his back?

    5. What's the key to staying on pace with the higher end teams like Prague?

    6. If you were a player on the San Jose Sharks, how do you think you'd be handling this start to the season?

  8. The Toronto Legion came up short last season after having one of the more promising rosters in recent memory. Hall of Famer Ronan Lavelle is no longer with the team after a recent retirement which is bringing more roles and responsibilities for Jimi Jax and Mac Atlas, the two young stars that have been at the forefront of the Legion’s core.

Atlas and Jax, in their 4th year, were the #2 and #3 players behind Lavelle in scoring. The Legion are going to have to lean on these two players to have some playoff success going forward. The once highly touted prospects are now the veterans of the team and are ready to take the next step in their careers. In the media day interviews, Jax discussed the learnings of last year and how to prepare for this season.

“I think it’s more of just not letting the foot off the gas. We had the 3-2 series lead, felt good, played good, but just never got the bounces in the last two games”.

Jax, who’s come up short in the VHLE with the Oslo Storm, it not letting it get to his head as much as it did last time.

“The Oslo collapse hurt a lot, but this time around its different. You just have to look forward and adjust, and hope some luck goes your way. I’m hoping it does at some point.

The Legion are set to start the season next week.

  9. 1. We did bring Sock Monkey and Babay Shrimp in! Is this gonna be enough for us to make the playoffs?

We definitely have a pretty high floor!

    2. Who will be the unlucky EU contender who will miss the playoffs?

Prague is gonna have finals hangover.

    3. Predict the best Riga rookie this season.

Panarrella looks pretty damn promising after a long minor career.

    4. Predict the Riga MVP this season.

    My boy AK.

    5. What do you expect from your player this season?

I expect to be amongst the top 20 players with Jax this season.

    6. Have you watched Fury vs Ngannou fight? If so, did you like it?

I thought it was a great fight that should have been a draw but they had to protect the sport of boxing.

    7. Do you think Ovechkin actually has a shot to surpass Gretzky in goals?

Yes I do, I think he can play past 40 and even with decline he should be able get past him.

  10. 1. How do you feel about the retool process I started last week?

Pretty creative seeing how limited GMs are to do overhauls in one offseason.

    2. Do you think we still have a shot at contending?

Yes but its all in STHS hands now and if the major reshuffle can get chemistry right away.

    3. How hyped are you to see young faces in Riga?

Always like seeing a new generation of players as an AGM for so many years. Lots of hopw.

    4. Do you think we can snag at least big free agent?

We have a long tenured respected GM of course we can.

    5. How hyped are you about the season?

Very hyped and excited for the phase of Riga.

    6. How is your favorite sports team doing right now? doesnt matter which league

Leafs are Leafs - good in season, bad in playoffs.
