Season 37 Back in the 37th season of the Victory Hockey league one of the brightest and most underrated players and members of VHL history was signed to a contract by the Calgary Wranglers. But hold up, let's kick this back to the 30th VHL Entry Draft where the creation of this star was born. When the Helsinki Titans entered the fourth round of the 30th VHL Entry Draft, they expected to simply just draft a dud or pass as teams usually do. Boy are they happy they didn't pass and actually took a chance on a goaltender named Rock Star. Rock Star was a creation of (@boulder) who is one of the most underrated and under appreciated members of out history. Rock Star was a fourth round selection that became known as one of the best backups (and at a time was also a starter) in league history. Not only did this player come to practice but eventually Rock Star would not be put in a game as a usual backup gag, but a strategic move to win a game. Okay back to the 37th season where Calgary signed Rock Star to a contract, basically rewarded the team player with a contract based solely on his effort. Boulder was a very quiet member and only really came on to do training and update his/her player. For those of you that were around from S30-S37, do you remember this great member who is an unsung hero who actually was the turning point of a rebuild in Davos and was a Riga regular for many years? The 25th overall pick has never looked so good.

Season 1: Back in the first season of the Victory Hockey League we saw one of the weirdest scenarios that I have personally seen in a online simulation league. The first overall pick to ever hear his name announced in the Victory Hockey League was Robert Sharpe, a goaltender from the east coast of Canada. The Amstel Tigers (still one of the dumbest names in VHL history) decided to grab a goaltender first overall to build from the net outwards. Unfortunately the east coaster had a run in with steroids and was suspended for an entire season in the Victory Hockey League. At the time some saw it as a fitting punishment, but knowing how understanding we are in today's Victory Hockey League, it's safe to say it was a bit of a stiff penalty. See Sharpe wasn't bending the rules on purpose and it was simply an error on his part. At the time league commissioner Scotty Campbell wanted to flex his blue team muscle by slapping down a penalty. Robert Sharpe (@Beketov) got a strict lesson but one that isn't so deserving and with Scotty Campbell wanting to become a "big man", he did some damage. Credit to Beketov though as he stuck with this league and continued to build some very productive and HOF level players. Scotty Campbell left the league after people started to tune him out and figure out he just loved the power.

My opinion is this: Patrick looks like a good prospect and a poor mans Toews. The injury worries me. I also don't think any of this years players could step into a roster and be an asset right now. Matthews, Eichel, Laine and McDavid all had that "wow" factor. Niko looks good but I also worry about his size in the NHL. His fight and determination look unmatched in this draft.

Season 30: The NHL Draft Lottery took place yesterday and many fans were left either upset or very happy, more than normal. The odd way in which things were drawn made the whole process quite the shock to watch. Some think it's a rigged system, some think it's just rigged in general and others feel like Las Vegas didn't deserve to have the high odds they do considering they do get to pluck some semi-decent players from other rosters very soon. The vHL has their own Expansion draft story that is quite interesting as well. It is a small story but one that has had a lasting effect on the VHL for almost half of it's existence. Back in Season 30 when the Victory Hockey League consisted of 8 sparkling teams with great resumes (outside of the Vasteras franchise) the league had decided that 8 teams would no longer be the count. Two fresh expansion teams would see the light of day in the VHL and they would be headed by users @Koradek and @Kendrick who both had different ideas regarding where they would place their franchises and what they would be called. Did you know that the fact Quebec City became the North American addition actually had an affect on the VHL Expansion Draft that saw Radislav Mjers (@iRockstar) become the first player in Cologne history? It's a little bit more complicated than strictly being two franchises picking back to back. The deal in place saw Koradek get to select his location before Kendrick but to even the deal Kendrick would get the first pic in the expansion draft and start out with an All-Star calibre player. Sources said that Cologne wasn't the original location that was set out by Kendrick and that San Diego, Chicago and New Jersey were in the hunt for a franchise if he had the North American option available to him.

Add Cullen to my list of Playoff veterans who just will their way to cups. Also because of Las Vegas' blow up yesterday, I'm glad the AVS dropped to 4th. Fuck the Aces!
