  4. Mikhail Mikhailovich Interview Hello Mikhail, thanks for sitting down with us for this interview! You have been one of the quieter players in the VHL since you joined the league so maybe some of our readers don’t know you yet… How would you describe yourself to someone who doesn’t know you, what kind of player are you? Hello everybody and thanks for inviting me to this interview. That´s true I am really one of the quieter people, that´s my kind of personality. Furthermore I am from Russia and still have some language problems and in my free time I spent most of the time with my Russian friends. Once I am on the ice I try to be a team player, I want to support my team as good as possible. I think I have good hands and a good shot, at least that´s what all the scouting reports are saying about me. My defensive and physical play are my weaknesses I would say, I still need a lot of improvement in that area. But I am still young and I am confident that I am getting better. You haven’t been as productive in North America so far as you were in your homeland of Russia. What do you think is the reason for that? The style of the game is different here. The rinks in Europe are bigger, we have more time to make a decision and the game isn´t that physical and intense. In Russia the game is more offensive minded and I think that kind of game fits me better. But I am still in a learning process and hope that I find a way to be successful over here in North America. Are you happy with how your career went so far or do you think you could have done more? I am happy with the fact that I earned a regular spot in a VHL pro team. Not many believed that I would be able to get this done. However, I still want to have a bigger impact on my team, I want to play more and I want to help more. How do you like playing in Cologne? They are the team that drafted you and you have been with them ever since, could you see yourself spending your entire career in Cologne or do you eventually want to play for some other teams as well? Cologne is already me second home. It is a great organization and I am happy to be here. The management is very loyal to me. I know that I am not always playing great hockey, but they still believe in me and send me out on the ice again even after back to back mistakes. You will be a free agent this off-season, have there been any talks about signing an extension yet. Can you tell us a bit about your plans going into free agency? I am not thinking about the future and what could be next summer. Now I have a contract in Cologne and I will probably re-sign here, that’s all I need to know. What are your goals for next season, both individually and team-wise? Do you think you are due for a big jump in production? I hope we are going to make the playoffs, I want to have the postseason experience. As an individual I just want to take the next step and improve my game. The VHL has teams all over North America and Europe, many of them in pretty untraditional markets. What are your thoughts on the fact that there is no team in Russia? And if there was, would you see yourself going there to play in your motherland? Playing VHL hockey in Russia would be a dream for every Russian player. But with the KHL it will not be easy to get a team here. But I like the VHL how it is. 660 words + 2 pics
