  6. S72 was a great draft year with a lot of depth and some great first-gens entering the VHL. Durning the S72 draft, there were also a lot of busts and steals that happened, especially in the first round. One such team that had an equal amount of steals and busts was the Vancouver Wolves. Funnily enough, their first-round picks ended up falling short of expectations, whereas their second picks ended up as steals. Even with their sub-par draft, the Wolves were able to win a cup two seasons later during S74. Now, what would happen if we would turn back time and change who VAN picked with their #4 and #7 picks. The way I'm doing this is I'm going to say that the top 3 picks are still the same, with SS Hornet, Robin Winter and Latrell Mitchell off the board. We'll also say that VAN's second-round picks of Andrew Su and Greg Stallion will also remain the same. If I remember correctly GM reserved players were still a thing in S72, so players like Valtteri Vaakanainen will stay where they were initially going. All right, with the rules set let's get going. First off, originally VAN picked Gino DiGiannantonio with their #4 overall pick. This was viewed as a large gamble pick by most GMs in the league at this time, but VAN still took the risk. We all know how that turned out, with Gino being out of VAN within 2 seasons and never really developing as a prospect. This time we'll be drafting Timothy Brown 4th overall. With VAN's second first-round pick they decided to go with Jungkok. Now despite Jungkok killing it now, he just simply did not fit into VAN's lineup and had limited minutes in the seasons he was in VAN. Instead, we'll pick Spencer Elsby for a nice boost to the defence. With these two changes, I honestly think we do worse in the first season after. After all, Gino did contribute a decent bit in S72, and Elsby and Brown would still be in the M for this season. The next season would be pretty tough also. Despite Brown and Elsby coming up, they would still be stuck behind the ageing core that VAN had. But, during this time I think we would do marginally better as Elsby would provide some much-needed depth to our defence. Brown would possibly be in the same situation that Jungkok was in, stuck behind a lot of vets. Due to the team Struggling, the HHH and Freeman trade still goes through and VAN enters their retool season. With the addition of Brown and Elsby S74 cup run still happens, and they finally move up to have a major role on the team. With Downey, Griff, and Louth being the only veteran players still on the team Brown and Elsby play on the second lines and bolster the already strong S74 VAN team. From there VAN continues to grow and perhaps brings back more cups in the following seasons.
  7. A new season and that means a new VHL thoughts post. Su has been disappointing this season. Honestly, I expected myself to be able to be close to the point leader race this season, and although I'm in the top-10, I'm nowhere close to the top 3 guys. Contender or Stat Padding? I'm honestly conflicted about what I should do for the rest of Su's career. The best-case scenario is that I can stat pad while being on a good team, but if I had to choose 1, I'd have no idea what to do. Su has finally become VAN's franchise point leader. Yey, I guess? I'm happy I was able to beat some HOFers in Freeman and HHH, and in fewer games, but I would rather have more playoff success than regular-season scoring. Warsaw is a juggernaut. I don't think any team can really pose a threat to WAR. I hope I'm incorrect, but WAR just doesn't have any holes in their team so far. They better win a cup in a quick timeframe, because depreciation and cap hell is going to hit them hard in 2-3 seasons.
  8. S72 is nearing the trade deadline, and with that, we are also past the halfway point of the season. There are a lot of notable stories this season with new faces in the league, some old ones are gone, and some players hitting their stride. Today I'll be covering the fact that Andrew Su is now the Vancouver Wolves franchise leading scorer. This happened almost at the start of the season, but I'll be covering it now. VAN has been around for a long time, and with that, they have their fair share of legends. Most notable of which are Julius Freeman, Jeff Downey and HHH in recent memory. Su passed HHH sometime last season and was sitting behind Freeman and Downey at the start of this one. This season Su has passed Julius Freeman and Jeff Downey in points for the franchise lead. Both Freeman and Downey had 460 points for their careers in VAN. Su currently has 485 points and counting. Su has also only played 402 games, compared to the 458 that Freeman played and 504 that Downey had. Su is also quite close to holding a few other VAN records. Su is currently 2nd in goals scored as well as 2nd in assists for the franchise. In each category, Su is sitting behind Freeman who has 217 goals, and Downey who has 347 assists. As of today, Su has 200 goals and 285 assists. It is a very high possibility that Su will be able to pass Freeman in goals by the end of this season and will pass Downey in the next season. Su could also pass Freeman for shots taken with 2115 compared to 2292. Su's career didn't start off great in the big leagues. After he had won the Founders Cup with OTT in the M and scored 99 points, Su was drafted 13th overall. Despite not having crossed the cap of 250 TPE by the season start, Su opted to play in the pros. Unfortunately due to the overcrowding at the center position in VAN, and the fact that Su was a pretty bad player, he didn't see much ice time and only had a total of 19 points in his rookie campaign. In his sophomore season, he finally improved enough to play on the second line, behind HHH and was able to show massive strides in his game, with 77 points on the season. After that Su became an absolute unit. For season 74 he continued to play behind HHH on the second line and was able to score 100 points and 40 goals. In S74 he was also able to win it all with VAN. From there, he would continue to have 2 more consecutive 100 points, 40 goal seasons. Su would miss out on the Mike Szatkowski Trophy in season 75, by 1 point. He had 106 points and 43 goals compared to John Merrick's 107 point campaign. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Su came back strong in S76, having a 121 point season, tieing with Mikko Lahtinen with 121 points to claim the trophy. That season he was also able to win the Scotty Campbell trophy for MVP.
  9. 1. Worse than expected, wanted to be leading the league by this point. 2. Nope, I suspected than we would struggle this season. 3. Onde or Stallion 6. Stallion, old bud from S72 7. Goalie, i can blame STHS more 8. Onde
  10. A new season and that means a new VHL thoughts post. Rise of the expansions? It looks like all of the expansion teams have finally started to be gud (looking at you LA). It's honestly impressive that they occupy #1, 2, 1 and 4 in each of their conferences. London should also be much better than they currently are in their super top-heavy EU conference. It's nice to see that every expansion has been somewhat competitive so far in their history. Su has been doing decently. Had a really hot streak at the start of the season, but has started to cool down a lot. It's very surprising to see Su close to the top of the assists board, especially I mainly wanted to focus on a score-first build with Su. Call me a downer but I don't think VAN is going to make the playoffs this season. Too unbalanced of a roster to go far.
  11. As some may know, a massive trade rocked the VHL last week. VAN and TOR made a blockbuster trade where stars Micah Adrienne and SS Hornet were shipped off for Kate Upton, Wolf Weiss and Ziarie Anigbogu. In this trade VAN also gave up an S78 2nd round pick from WAR to acquire an S79 2nd and 1st round pick from TOR. I'm going to examine this trade for each team, and then my player, Andrew Su. First off, for VAN, I'd say this is a definite win. SS Hornet already stated that he wanted to test this upcoming season's free agency, so shipping him off for some picks is fine. Micah Adrienne, on the other hand, was unhappy with some of the management decisions and as a result, wanted out of VAN. Purely based on the situation that VAN found themselves in, they came out of this trade all smiles. But, based on the pure value, I think VAN lost out on quite a bit. VAN came into this season with one of the strongest offences but had weak goalie and defence depth. At the time of the trade, they were 4th in the NA conference. VAN's roster also has a decent prospect/young pool for the future. From this, one would assume that VAN would either trade for another D on Adrienne's level and a good goaltender or focus on the future, gathering picks and younger players. In the trade that did happen, VAN decided on a blend between the two and I would say lost out on a lot as a result. They got a second line RW in Ziarie Anigbogu who is retiring in 2 seasons, and 2 players who are only average at best, even though they're in their prime years. Now VAN has an even worse defence and weakened one of their biggest strengths, their center depth. The 1st round pick is nice, but it doesn't seem to line up with VAN's timeline for contention, and TOR should still be a pretty strong team during S79. Still, VAN did a pretty good job considering what situation they were going through. For TOR, I think this is a trade with almost no downsides. Essentially they flipped an average D-man, 2 average/good forwards for an elite D-man and center. They didn't weaken their team much and improved it to a great extent. The first-round pick they gave up isn't much as their roster looks like they'll hit their peak in 1 or 2 seasons, making the pick a much lower one. I don't know any of the situations or thinking process of TOR, so I can only say this much. Now for my player Su, this trade is a disaster. Su is nearing his retirement and I would really prefer to be on a more competitive team. I think VAN currently is more built to be good in 2 or more seasons, which is past my deadline. Honestly, VAN is still good in terms of offence but our gaps on goalie and d-men are too large for us to realistically win in playoffs.
  12. 1. Decent, team could be doing better though 2. Slightly disappointed started off hot but started slowing down 3. Not great 5. Seattle 6. Stallion, mates since S72 7. FO, would greatly help the team
  13. VAN has had an interesting start to the season so far. Currently, they're sitting 4th in the NA conference at 8-6-1 with 17 points, only 2 points ahead of SEA. Most of their wins have come from their last hot streak, which is a 5 game win streak and counting. During this time, they have beaten what many critics have considered better teams. Critics' concerns about their defence and goalies have been correct so far as they have had the 5th most goals against in the league. This may not sound so bad, but considering there are at least 2 teams in full rebuild mode it is enough to raise concerns. So far, it seems like their offence is doing most of the work with Andrew Su, Onde Sandstrom and Micah Adrienne in the #1, 3 and 4 spots for league scoring. Honestly, I don't think this is sustainable and they'll start to lose steam when other teams figure out their offence.
  14. 1. Hopefully as the go to guy for anything on the ice. 2. Get a feel for the game again. 3. Rested, sat on my ass and just chilled. 6. CHI for knocking us out of poffs last szn. 7. Win the cup? 8. Focus on the TPE grind and you'll be a great player in no time.
  15. Woot woot new season hype! The Wolves are looking way different than what they were before the season. Unfortunately, it looks like we got weaker over this offseason. With the loss of Venus Thightrap, Jimmy Spyro, Griff Manzer, and a few others, the team has lost a lot of talent. Overall, on offence, VAN is still looking mighty dangerous with the 1-2 punch of SS-Hornet and Andrew Su at the center. The biggest weakness that sports analysts have been pointing at is the lack of depth on defence and the unproven goalie Markus Emerson Jr. For D, VAN doesn't have another great player after Micah Adrienne. Markus Emerson Jr on the other hand, although doing great backing up Spyro last season, has never started and is unproven if he can excel as a team's starter the whole season. His great season also was when VAN had much more support in front of him. One of the biggest losses this season is Louth/Beav as the GM. After a long time in the league, he has decided to hang up his jersey, we can only hope that one day he'll come back. Only time will tell if VAN has truly lost a step.
  16. 1. Just overall a really great and supportive guy. Hope that he'll come back someday soon and find VHL fun again. 2. Don't want to bring up anything controversial, so I'll just say I think the most qualified and experienced guy should get the job. Preferably they are on VAN. 4. SS Hornet and Stallion. 5. Nothing, offseason is time for me to become more like hotdog phil. 6. Just go out on the ice and do my best. 7. A failure is only considered a failure if you don't learn from it.

  23. Depreciation is pain. Coming into an offseason and seeing that -140 TPA is an absolute pain. After all the grinding for TPE, it vanishes just like that. I don't even know how I'm going to survive in the future when I get that fat 8% depreciation. Anyways, I decided not to pump all my stats back up to 99, so I could save 40-50 TPE for the next season, where my depreciation is going to be even worse. I don't know how much of a difference 98 is compared to 99, but hopefully, it won't impact my stats that badly. Who knows, maybe my player is absolute shit next season due to me being a stingy little bastard, but I'm sure everything will be perfectly fine. The worst thing is I can only get 1 depreciation fighter for my player I think. Who knows, I haven't looked at my finances in over 5 seasons.
  24. What a season it has been for Su. After missing out on the Stats trophy last season by one point to Merrick, Su was gunning for an award. Luckily enough, he was able to not only snag the Stats Trophy that he didn't get last season but he also was able to grab the Campbell this season as well. For the stats trophy, he was neck and neck with both Mikko Lahtinen and Ola Vikingstad for the majority of the season. In the last few games, both Su and Lahtinen were able to pull away from Vikingstad and were constantly switching positions for the lead. During the final 10 game stretch, the largest gap between the two players was no more than 3 points at any time. Fortunately enough for Su, he was able to keep up with Lahtinen and was able to tie him in points with 121. At the end of the season, Su was able to share the trophy with Lahtinen by scoring 47 apples and 74 assists. This performance was also good enough to get Su the Scotty Campbell trophy with an 8 to 2 vote. The other candidate was Lahtinen, but Su was able to come away with the award, due to having less help on his team. Lahtinen had 2 other players, Kris Rice with 105 and Roque Davis with 103, on his team that were in the top 10 points. VAN's second-best scorer on the other hand was Venus Thightrap with 86 points. Despite the difference in supporting casts, some still felt as if Lahtinen deserved the award for his physical play that far outshone Su. Lahtinen had 329 HITS, compared to Su only having 84 HITS. For this reason, Su was outmatched in the Slobo race for most outstanding. Lahtinen had up to 45% of the vote, while Su only had 24%. Su didn't have much of a chance as he was both outhit and outscored by Lahtinen. Su was also able to make the 1st-team all-VHL for the second time in his career to no-ones surprise. Despite the regular-season success in both points and awards, Su struggled in the playoffs with only 7 points in 9 games. Despite the struggles, VAN was still able to make it to the second round, and free-agent pickup SS-Hornet was able to prove his worth. Unfortunately, VAN was unable to make it past the second round. Su was also able to make it on to the WC Canada team this time around, which makes it the second time he's been on this team, the first time being in S74. Su played decent in the round-robin with 8 points in 10 games. He played even better in the actual tournament with 6 points in 3 games. Unfortunately, Canada wasn't able to win the gold and lost in OT. Hopefully, Su will continue to play as he has and maybe win some more wards in the future. Perhaps one day he'll be able to make the HOF.
