I don't know about you all but my favourite time of year to be a VHL member is the holidays. From the charity drive to the auctions to the free TPE everyone loves the holidays in the VHL! This is officially the fourth year we've done this after @Banackock originally suggested it back in 2019 and we've chosen, as you can see above, Doctor's Without Borders to receive our charity donations for this year. This is, of course, just our league-supported charity. As always, you are free to donate your funds to any registered charity anywhere in the world and count it towards the auction and our total numbers; all we ask is a screenshot proving the donation (though please remember to redact any personal information). 100% of the money raised by the league will be donated to Doctor's Without Borders, and the VHL will not take any cut. On top of that the league has decided to once again match up to $1000 when the final donation is put in. That means if you all donate $2500 total we'll put the donation up to $3500! In addition to the Donation Drive, we will also kick off our Charity Auction and 12 Days of Christmas. How will it all work? Essentially the same as past years, but here are the exact details for each portion of our holiday season for 2023: Charity Drive: December 12th - 24th Starting tomorrow members can begin donating. Whether you do so through the league, by donating HERE, privately to DWB, or any charitable foundation of your choosing (receipt proof required for donations made outside the league), it will all count towards the overall contribution from the league. From that overall contribution, the league will match donations up to $1000 CAD, and add that to the donation made through the league. Please post all confirmations of donation, including Paypals through the league, auction wins, and private donations to THIS THREAD. Any donation of $5 CAD, or more, will result in an automatic personal reward of 2 Uncapped TPE + a Full Free Week (12 Capped TPE), as well as an entry to each of the first 3 tiers of the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle. Like past years as well we will be accepting blood donations in the charity drive. Blood is in high demand all year round, but especially at this time. Give the gift of life to someone. If you schedule and follow through with an appointment to donate blood that will count the same as a $5 donation and have the same rewards outlined above and below. For proof just post a photo from during your donation, it doesn’t need to include your face if you don’t want it to, a shot of the machine or your arm or whatever is fine, we’ll take your word for it. As this is the season of giving, members may also donate on behalf of one other user. Holiday Charity Auction: December 13th-20th @Acydburn will be posting the auction items soon but for now the full rules are available here. Go buy something fun offered up by our community members. Auction wins will count as personal donations for the purpose of individual rewards. As always there are some amazing auction items that we're looking forward to this year so it should be fun. 12 Days of Christmas: December 13th - 24th This year’s 12 Days of Christmas will be similar to the last two years, where there will be a daily thread to claim “tickets” into our final raffle, which will be drawn on a live stream. As always the raffle will contain 4 tiers of prizes, with each day contributing to your entry into each tier, as follows: Dec. 13 - 15: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 1 raffle (1 ticket gained per day) Dec. 16 - 18: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 2 raffle (1 ticket gained per day) Dec. 19 - 21: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 3 raffle (1 ticket gained per day) Dec. 22 - 24: Post in the corresponding thread each day for an entry into the Tier 4 raffle (1 ticket gained per day) Number of Winners per tier: Tier 1: 10 Winners Tier 2: 5 Winners Tier 3: 3 Winners Tier 4: 1 Winner As with all our previous raffles if someone is drawn twice they will be considered as having won the higher tier item and the lower tier will be re-drawn. Users may also claim any tier underneath what they have won if they would rather have that item. No rewards can be exchanged for cash but we will ship worldwide as @Berocka found out to the detriment of the league having to ship a jersey to Australia... Rewards and Donation Milestones As previously mentioned, there will be personal rewards to those who participate in the charity drive / holiday auction, as well as stretch goals to hit which will result in rewards for the community as a whole! $500 Community Donations: 2 Uncapped TPE for Everyone + @twists will stream a declaration of his love for everyone that's been active in the past week. $1000 Community Donations: 4 Uncapped TPE for Everyone + @DarkSpyro will perform some Christmas themed metal songs $2000 Community Donations: PT Doubles Week for Everyone + @Grape will do a full stream of all the Five Nights at Freddy's games. $2500 Community Donations: 6 Uncapped TPE for Everyone + @Acydburn will stream something, he just hasn't decided what yet. $3500 Community Donations: 8 Uncapped TPE for Everyone + @Beketov will once again stream Zoo Tycoon 2 Ultimate (which I'll have to re-install) and name animals after VHL members. Additionally, though not a "stretch goal" in the classic sense, for every $100 donated @eagle_3450 will do a lap of the Nurburgring in BeamNG.drive **Disclaimer: Rewards may only be applied to players created on, or before, December 25th, 2023** Let's do this @Members!

This year the VHL has selected Doctor's Without Borders as its charitable cause for the holiday season! The main concern for me is how much of a player’s “lifespan” is based around theirs draft season so there’s a certain level of complexity added if you can delay that. Like it’s still 9 season careers so now we need to make sure that gets set correctly even if you delay your draft and such. We could definitely make that work I’m sure it just has the potential for an extra layer of confusion in regard to when a player is forced to retire. It would have to be set as the VHLE season for players who delay and the VHL season for players who don’t, it’s a bit fuzzy.

Brightest spot was actually right at the beginning. We won like 8 of our first 10 or something and were basically leading in every category… and then we fell off a cliff and lost like 14 straight or something.

@Members It's that time of year again! The beginning of the VHL Holiday season and therefore the Charity Auction! So this post is our call for items, you can see what has been done in the past here. This gives you an idea of what other's have done if you want to replicate it but feel free to come up with something new. The way the auctions function is simple, we put up the "items" you offer and as members you put your money bids down and fight over who gets it. Once the time runs out the highest bidder takes the prize. So what's this thread for? Well we need to know what to put up for auction of course! So, reply below if you're willing to auction anything, digital, real, or otherwise. You can also offer up incentives for group milestones or cumulative goals. These would be stuff like the Zoo Tycoon 2 stream I've done the last couple of years. Essentially if, as a whole, we meet a certain amount of money raised then the milestone is met and the reward is "paid out" to everyone. Alternatively a cumulative goal would be if that specific auction item reaches a certain amount raised so like "$100 = a stream" or something and everyone puts forth money toward the same goal instead of budding against each other. Notes: - We've had amazingly creative auctions the last two years, check out the subforum for ideas for this year. It's okay to repeat things. - Staff will have the final say on which volunteered items make it to the auction. Ultimately some things like permanent discord mutes or something might be funny but we aren't going to intentionally harm the league or do anything illegal for this. - As always, everything must be SFW. - When you bid on an auction item, you are agreeing to pay that amount in full if you win. Do not bid if you aren't willing to pay. - If you sign up to auction off an item or your time please consider it a commitment. If you offer to do something please follow through with it. People are paying for these things so don't ignore them. Once we get the items for the charity auction sorted, we'll set fundraising goals and share the corresponding rewards for hitting each goal. As always @Commissioners have final say if an item is appropriate and what items will be chosen. Volunteering an item in here doesn't mean it will automatically get chosen but putting something in means it can so make sure you're willing to do whatever you say in here. Happy holidays! Well we ran real for months and I’ve been running purple for a few weeks now so I’m a way most of the top votes have gotten used. For now though she’s orange The photo looks kinda red but it’s far more orange in person. I imagine now that I don’t need to rip the back panel off that I’ll be changing it a bit more frequently.

Italic indicates overage (which isn't necessarily a punishment's but you need to watch out for if you keep adding more) Calgary: 8/8 Chicago: 3/8 DC: 8/8 Davos: 8/8 Helsinki: 6/8 London: 7/8 LA: 7/8 Malmo:8/8 (tbh I'm slightly uncertain since only 1 goalie is listed, did yuu trade your backup? I do see 45/53 starts though so that would indicate 8 backup starts) Moscow: 7/8 NY: 24/8 (This looks a lot worse than it is given the circumstances, I understand haha) Prague: 4/8 Riga: 0/8 Seattle: 0/8 Toronto: 4/8 Vancouver: 12/8 (I think? To be fair while it is winter now basically the entire country of Canada was on fire last summer… Mind you we would have to see if there’s any kind of way to donate on a national scale for firefighters. I think it’s usually a very local thing.

Hello @Members! Last week was Halloween and you can't tell me otherwise! I feel like I blinked and we're basically into December, wild! That does mean that the holiday season is nearly upon us which for the VHL means our annual charity drive! For those who haven’t been around, a quick recap: Every December in addition to Christmas festivities we hold a charity donation drive to help out communities beyond our own. This will be our fifth year doing the charity drive with previous drives donating thousands to the Make a Wish Foundation, Food Banks of Canada / Feed America, the Red Cross, and the SickKids Foundation / St. Jude's. But it's not even December yet, why do I bring this up? Because we need your help deciding a charity of course. As always you’ll be able to donate to any charity you wish and have it count but the league matching donation and any donated through us will go to the charity that’s chosen. In an ideal world that charity fits a couple of criteria so if you can try to keep them in mind for your suggestions that would be great: 1. Should be something that accepts PayPal donations since all league funds run through that. 2. Should be something with a wide reach and ideally international or at least having Canadian / American equivalents we can split donations between. 3. Nothing political or divisive. So let’s see what you can come up with! Feel free to also discuss your favourites in here if someone suggests something you feel strong about but try to keep it as on topic as possible. Here’s to the start of another VHL holiday season!

Alright I’m out then. I have never and never intend to GM. GMing is not the be all end all of the league. At the core this remains a player sim, not a GM sim, so I 100% disagree with the idea that only people with GM experience have anything to offer to the BOG role.
