He has also paid the bills of those in danger of loosing heat and power during these cold days. But his best works continue to be with children. 8. S91 Rookie Experience for Shubham Anand

    image.png.4130b571dcd9c7fc656cd3472cb9421f.png

Shubham Anand in action for the Riga Reign

The journey to get to this point has been long and twisted, but the time for Shubham Anand to finally make his VHL debut has come. It has taken seasons of growing in an unstable VHLE to arrive at this moment. While he will be starting for a team other than the team that drafted, that might be for the best as he ends up on a intriguing club where he can have an impact for seasons to come.

Shubham Anand was drafted late into the first round of S89 by the Calgary Wranglers. While the Wranglers would rebuild and make significant changes, Shubham would go through a chaotic two-year stint in the VHLE. Just as he was ready to be called up, Calgary decided it was done rebuilding and would trade Shubham to the Riga Reign.

The Riga Reign of S91 are an interesting bunch. The team is made of a good mix powerful veterans and rising youngsters. Spending a second season in the VHLE to develop have seemed to paided off. Despite being the youngest player on the roster, Shubham could easily slot into a second line role. While he only was a above average player in the VHLE, all his growth in his overall game could see Shubham in the race for Rookie of the Year. Time to wait and see what happens.

It would not take long into Shubham debut for to have a significant impact. While the first game didn't go to play for both player and team, the second game was different.  In an explosion of offense for the Riga Reign, Shubham would record his first assist and his first goal. It was a positive sign of things to come. The Riga Reign would finish the regular season second in the very competitive European Conference, just behind the Victory Cup winners. Shubham also finished second in points for all rookies with 60 points. The playoffs, on the other hand, would be bitterly disappointing for the Reign. A brutal series against London United left Riga with only one win and Shubham with a negative plus minus rating. In spite of the bad ending  to an otherwise great seasons, Shubham would finish on the All Rookie team for S91.

All the chaos arriving to this point  could have damaged a prospect like Shubham Anand. Yet in spite everything that has been thrown his way, Shubham has emerged as a future star on a squad set to contend for the foreseeable future. And having signed a long term contract with the Reign, we will see if some stability can result in Shubham Anand developing into the Hall of Famer he has the potential to become.

    6. I need to be more patient with the people around me.

    7. Nothing set in stone, bit we will see what happens.

  10. It has been a miserable season for the basement dweller of the VHLM this season. Both Mexico City and Halifax knew it was going to be a struggle with five players or less on both rosters. There was hope that some rising waiver players would help these two teams out. But the players never came. A recruitment season so bad that the JST was canceled, has left both clubs down the creek with no paddles. Management of both teams are wondering what to do next. Barely having enough players to play is not good for the long-term viability of both clubs. Is this situation fixable or is it time for the nuclear option. A reduction of the VHLM similar to the reduction the VHLE went through last season certainly is in the cards, and Mexico City and Halifax, with the fewest players on the roster, are likely on the chopping block. Can these two franchise find a way to survive or are they doomed to die?

    4. Being in the rookie race is my favorite part.

    5. Season isn't over yet. Think about the playoffs when we get there. Focus on today.

    6. Season isn't half over yet. I wouldn't go that far until the halfway point.

  13. The talk of this season has been recrment or the lack thereof. This has been most felt by the GMs and AGMs of the VHLM. This player crunch has severely impacted the competitive balance of this league. The point of this article is to come up reasons for the the downturn and find solutions to correct this problem.

I must start by stating that this hobby is a niche one. Most people would prefer to play the game rather than let a computer decide the outcome.  Sim leaguers are a different breed and a tight nit community. Indeed I have had the pleasure of many of my friends in multiple leagues. But while the VHL has the largest community out of any sim league, growth has been slow. Indeed the Covid boom which has brought in a many new players has ended. I believe that this boom comes down to time. The fall has been a busy time of year for many, myself including. Now that the holiday season has arrived, that busyness should increase. It takes time to be a productive member of this community, time that could be spent elsewhere. These are things that must be considered by the BoG going forward.

Now this the problem elaborated on, what are the answers? If we are to get more eyes on this league, we have to go viral. The league has used YouTube effective in the past. After all, it is how I ended up here. But I feel that we can do more that sponsor videos. There are videos of creating a player in something like the last College Football video game and follow the career path of that of player. I have watched these videos and have enjoyed many of them. As a true sim league, there is no game play to record, but the storytelling could be fantastic. And sometimes that is all it takes to attract attention. I would also make some changes to the value of written TPE task. I would increase the amount of TPE for 150 word point task to 3 TPE and reduce the amount of words for 6 TPE to 300 words. The reduction of words nessary to get the maximum amount of TPE would hopefully be less daunting for new players, leaving the big articles for the professional. These are my ideas for fixing our recruitment issues, unworkable as they may be.

While the league will not collapse overnight, this recruitment slump has created issues that if unaddressed could result in huge problems. What keeps sim leagues like this one alive is a willingness to change when things aren't working out. I have made the case for my ideas but please make the case for your ideas below. The BoG has been open in their search for ideas to fix this problem. It gives me so much peace about the future. Undoubtedly, a good solution to this recruitment issue will be found and the result will be a stronger VHL
