  7. Severin von Karma Rookie Profile Name: Severin von Karma Position: Center Height: 6'1" Weight: 200 lbs Age: 22 Birthplace: Stuttgart, Germany Current Team: Bern Royals Prospect History Picked up off waivers right before the S41 trade deadline, von Karma was a bright spot on a bottom dwelling Royals team that struggled to pick up wins in S41. Racking up 53 points in 39 games last season, von Karma demonstrated his ability to be an offensive force in the VHLM. In the offseason he was selected by the Stockholm Vikings in the second round and was sent back down to the VHLM for another season of development. von Karma returned to Bern for S42 and proved that he can be one of the best centers in the VHLM by notching 119 points in 65 games. His next challenge will be to carry the Royals to the VHLM finals and to then transition his skills to the VHL next season. Strengths Playmaking Ability An incredibly talented passer, von Karma has consistently shown that he possesses a strong ability to make crisp tape-to-tape passes and set up his teammates for highlight reel goals. Scouts have commented that he has great vision and always seems to make the smart pass out of his own zone. His strong passing ability makes him a player that can run a powerplay unit from the half boards. Two-way Play von Karma is an extremely reliable two-way player who is rarely caught out of position and can be used in every offensive and defensive situation. His high Hockey IQ allows him to anticipate the play before it even happens and he can then capitalize on the mistakes of his opponents. He also has a knack for causing turnovers and quickly transitioning the play up the ice to generate an offensive chance for his team. Shooting While von Karma generally looks to pass before shooting, he also possesses a lethal shot making him a dual threat whenever he is on the ice. Leading his team in goals, von Karma has demonstrated on many occasions how his quick release can catch a goalie off guard. Severin also always seems to be able to get his shots through traffic; generating rebounds and secondary scoring chances for his team. Weaknesses Strength von Karma will need to get stronger in order to maximize his VHL potential as a strong two-way center. Too often, von Karma is muscled off the puck and pushed around by the bigger defensemen in the league which can lead to his team losing possession of the puck. Before von Karma makes his VHL debut next season, he will need to bulk up in order to battle the best the VHL has to offer. Face-offs A good center needs to be able to win key face-offs consistently when the game is on the line. So far in the VHLM season, von Karma is sitting with a face-off percentage of 54%. While not a terrible percentage, this is a definitely an area where von Karma will need to improve on as he will face tougher competition in the face-off circle next season in the VHL. Stardom von Karma isn't the flashiest player on the ice, nor is he the most vocal member on his team. Unlike teammate Josh Merica, von Karma doesn't like being the center of media attention and is thus not always the first name that comes to mind when people think of the Bern Royals. While his name may never sell the most jerseys on his team, von Kama consistently puts up solid performances from night to night making him a player that a coach loves to have.
