  2. HOUSTON BULLS PRESSER! Hello and welcome to this week's Houston Bulls Presser! Answer three questions for 1 capped TPE or six questions for 2 capped TPE! For the Week Ending May 18th, here are your questions! 1. It’s draft season in the VHL! All the teams in both the VHL and the VHLM are selecting the next generation of greats to join the leagues. How excited is your player for this new opportunity? 2. Happy Mother’s Day! How did you spend your time over the holiday? 3. It’s the offseason, which means everyone is trying to get in the best shape they can by the start of S99, what’s your player’s favorite exercise to do to stay healthy and fit? 4. With the NHL draft lottery having happened just recently, who’s a player you really like in this draft class? 5. The VHL isn’t the only sim league out there, what’s your favorite non-VHL sim league? If you have only tried the VHL, what makes it so fun? 6. What’s your favorite memory you have from watching sports? 3. As much as Jakub Kovar wanted to be a professional hockey player his whole life, he never really knew if he’d make it a reality, never knew if one day he’d be the VHL star he always hoped he could be, but now he’s completed the first step, getting to the big stage. Selected 31st overall in the M he’s always had some doubts about his true potential, I mean, if all the scouts couldn’t see anything special about him, did he even really have any sort of talent deep down, or was he destined to be just another player that never makes it out the VHLM and wastes away their true potential peaking in the 350 TPE range. You would think that being a first round pick in the S98 VHL draft would help soothe Kovar’s nerves, prove to himself that he did deserve to be here, that he was ready, but at first it almost made it worse, sure he had made a ton of improvement right before the draft, and teams saw that, scouts, media members, fans saw it, they wrote articles about it, but still there was so many players that performed better on the stat sheet than he had, so many that had higher TPE totals than him. Jakub struggled with this as he went through season 98 still in the M, but with much higher expectations on his shoulders, now a team was truly relying on his success, to help bring the team back to being competitive again, along with the other prospects of the franchise. After the end of season 98 however, one massive move would change Kovar’s perspective on his career and future, his GM in Warsaw, called him up to the VHL from his VHLM squad in Philadelphia. It was late when it happened, maybe 3 am, but for whatever reason, fate, God, pure chance, Jakub couldn’t sleep a wink, nothing he tried worked, reading a book, melatonin, some warm milk, nothing. Kovar was sitting in his bed in his apartment, watching a movie, Good Will Hunting to be exact, when he heard his phone ring. “Who could possibly need to call me right now?” Jakub whispered to himself, almost seeming to be asking the universe itself for answers. He looked at the screen, the name “Cole Pearce” slid across the screen, the GM for his VHL team, the Warsaw Predators. He picked up, and Cole spoke, he told Kovar that the team was calling him up to the Majors, and that they had ordered for a private plane to take Jakub out to Warsaw to meet with management for the Predators. Hearing the news, Kovar’s insomnia was soothed and he fell asleep for few hours before he had to wake up for the flight. The flight itself went rather smooth, but Kovar’s heart and mind were racing a mile a minute as he got closer and closer to landing in Poland. Still, even now with his dreams finally realized, he still wondered if he was truly ready to be in the VHL. When he arrived at the Predators training facility he met with the GM and the training staff, he’d only met them briefly before on draft night. Jakub and the GM discussed their plan for the upcoming season and the future. Knowing that he would likely not make much of an impact on the ice and that Warsaw was poised to have another losing season near the bottom of the standing, Jakub asked Cole Pearce if he could stay down for one more year in the VHLM, where he could be a top player and lead the Reapers, a franchise he had grown to love in his time there. It was a tough decision, but Kovar knew that he would have an even better VHL debut in a year, and keep proving his doubters wrong. Word Count: 646
  4. As always when the VHL season comes to an end and rollover occurs, the trade market is absolutely booming, deals are flying left and right as every team in the league either tries their hardest to compete or blows it all up and turns valuable players into a large crop of picks to fuel the rebuild. This Off-season has quickly become one of the most exciting ever for the VHL with an absolutely insane amount of deals being made, who knows where your favorite VHL player could end up? A team that has been doing a lot of the heavy lifting trade-wise is Helsinki, making 4 separate deals from Thursday to now, acquiring a treasure chest of picks as they are ready to move on from the competitive core they took into season 98 and wish to look to the future and rebuild to hopefully bring in some good talent and potential. Another team making a lot of moves is Davos, though at the opposite end of the spectrum from the Titans as they look to go all in this upcoming season, acquiring Jorgen Lovstrom, Gianfranco Del Rocco, Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen, and Joshua Schwarzer to name a few. 7. Game Recap: Continental Cup Finals Game 6 Calgary Wranglers (3) - Moscow Menace (5) Three Stars: 1st - Maverick Goncalves (MOS), 2nd - Jarmo Ruutu (MOS), 3rd - Thor Reingaard (CGY) At first it seemed that Calgary would clinch the series victory in games 6 as they jumped out to a lead right away with a goal from Thor Reingaard only 80 seconds into the competition, however Moscow quickly responded with a goal from Bocage only 8 seconds later. The Menace kept their foot on the gas and scored another 2 goals within 11 minutes, both from Jarmo Ruutu. The 2nd period was a rather quiet one with only 1 goal being scored by Benjamin Abenduct for the Wranglers with 5 minutes remaining in the 2nd period to cut the lead down to only 1. 12 minutes into the third the Menace would widen their lead once again with a goal from Maverick Goncalves, this lead would stay the same for 5 minutes before Adi Dassler scored on the power play to bring the lead back to only 1. However less than a minute later Maverick Goncalves would score once more to clinch this game for good and secure a pivotal game 7 in this series. The story of this game was Maverick Goncalves' amazing offensive production and some stifling defense from the Menace as they only allowed 15 shots for the Wranglers. Goaltender Deadpanda for Moscow had a hard time finding his rhythm this game as he had a terrible .800 SV% allowing 3 goals on only 15 shots.
  8. Game Recap: Continental Cup Finals Game 7 Calgary Wranglers (3) - Moscow Menace (1) Three Stars: 1st - Adi Dassler (CGY), 2nd - Phil Sakic (CGY), 3rd - Spider Panda (CGY) In the first period the Victory Cup winning and Continental Cup favorite Moscow Menace jumped out to an early 1-0 lead only 8 minutes into the 3rd period with a goal from Jarmo Ruutu, assisted by Maverick Goncalves and Carson Tripp. However, this would end up to be the only offense that Moscow could muster, as in the second period, the Wranglers quickly evened the score, and then with 6 minutes left in the second they took the lead off two goals from Adi Dassler. Eight minutes into 3rd Calgary would secure the sealing goal and hold onto the end to hoist the Continental Cup. The story of this game was the combined brilliance of Adi Dassler and Phils Sakic who both had 3 points, being a part of every single goal for the Wranglers. Goalie Spider Panda also came in clutch for Calgary stopping all but one of Moscow's 42 shots.

  10. Jakub Kovar Biography Jakub Kovar was born in the Czech Republic’s capital and largest city to his parents Martin and Andrea Kovar, his mother was an English teacher and his father ran the family’s restaurant, but had a degree in engineering. Jakub has 2 siblings, his sister Adela, and his brother Lukas, both of them are older than him, Adela by 4 years, and Lukas by only a year and a half. Jakub and Lukas have always been huge sports fans, it's never mattered which sport either, basketball, hockey, soccer, you name it, they probably played it or watched it on TV. The boys would spend hours talking to each other about their favorite players, stats, who they thought was the best team that year etc. It was hockey however, that the boys loved the most, they lived just down the road from a rink and the Prague Phantoms arena, which they held season tickets to, so they had lots of opportunity to play hockey or watch their favorite team in person. When they weren’t completing their schoolwork or watching hockey, they played in their driveway, taking turns being the goalie and skater, and pretending they were Phantoms players competing for the continental cup, which they substituted with a laundry basket. Jakub began playing organized hockey at 6 years old, and it was clear from the very start that he had something that not every kid had. Jakub had a drive that not many others his age had as a young hockey player, he was always volunteering to be the one to demonstrate drills for the coach, always willing to forecheck and backcheck on every play and always willing to make the extra pass so that his team could come out on top. Jakub practiced as much as he could, even asking coaches of teams far above his age level if he could practice with them, anything that could get him slightly better at hockey, he was willing to try. He and his brother were quickly some of the best youth hockey players in the Czech Republic, practicing with the national team. When Jakub was 14, his family had to move to the USA, Seattle in particular, when his father got a job opportunity there. Once again, when Jakub began to play hockey in Seattle, coaches quickly realized there was something special about his play, and he was scouted by some of the best travel teams in the nation. Jakub’s amazing skills were evident to WHL scouts as he quickly shot up draft boards for one of the best junior hockey leagues in the world, and the first step towards his dream of playing in the VHL, the greatest hockey league in the world. When he was 16 he was selected 4th overall in the WHL bantam draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds. Jakub Kovar was quickly one of the best players in the WHL and all of the major junior level, despite his size he played with no fear, willing to fight anyone for the right to have the puck, and his stickhandling and offensive vision was on another level. In his first season with the Seattle Thunderbirds he finished with 102 points, good enough for 8th in the entire league, and helped lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to the playoffs as the 5th seed. However, the lights and pressure were just too much for the young Kovar, and he greatly underperformed expectations in the playoffs, only securing 2 assists as his team fell in 5 games. This heartbreaking defeat in the playoffs fueled Kovar to work even harder than he had ever before in the offseason. In his 2nd and final season in the WHL, he scored 123 points, second-most in the league, and was part of an absolutely stacked Thunderbirds roster that was the second best team in the league heading into the playoffs. This time, Kovar did not fold under the pressure, he elevated his game to a higher level in the playoffs, he scored 41 points in the playoffs, which led his team and the entire league in the playoffs, which helped his team win the Ed Chynoweth Trophy, and him win the Playoff MVP Trophy. Despite how great Kovar’s play was in the WHL, there was very little interest from VHLM teams as the S97 dispersal draft came closer. His potential was quite high, but his smaller size and low floor lead many teams to believe he could be a massive bust and not pan out to his potential. The Philadelphia Reapers took a chance on Kovar with the 32nd overall pick in the draft and Kovar’s professional career started out quite rough. The Reapers were not a very good team and Kovar was quite bad, only scoring 36 points in 72 games and being a -46, but he showed many signs of improvement as his play began to take a turn for the better. His hard work was vindicated when in the offseason he was taken 11th overall by the Warsaw Predators in the VHL Entry Draft. In his second season, he and the Reapers were much improved, as they finished 2nd in the VHLM and Kovar had 79 points and 36 goals. There seems to be a lot more to come from the rest of Jakub Kovar’s career, as he looks to end up as one of the VHL greats when his time in the league is up. 904 words

  14. no, lol, I just wanted to make a player from the Czech Republic, and have an IRL friend with the last name Kovar, and Jakub was a name that came up when I searched up common male Czech names, though I do know of Jakub and Jan Kovar.
  15. Jakub Kovar’s second season in the VHLM finished in heartbreak for him and his team, the Philadelphia Reapers as they fell in 6 games to Halifax 21st in the VHLM semifinals. However, while Kovar will not be leaving this season with any personal or team hardware, there is much to be happy about for him and his future in this league, as he continues to aspire to be a star and franchise player in the VHL. Jakub spent his first season in the VHLM on a lowly Reapers team that finished 2nd worst overall in the league, and while he showed promise and signs of improvement, his production was quite frankly, terrible. In 72 games for Philadelphia he scored 36 points, 13 of them goals, which is good enough for a pace of .5 points per game, in addition he also had an abysmal -46 +/- as he struggled mightily on defence, which is not rare for a forward of his playstyle and physical stature. Despite his lowly numbers in season 97, his hard work did not go unnoticed as many VHL GMs began to realize that he may have a real potential to be an amazing player in the draft, with talks of him going as high as 9th. In the end it was the Predators of Warsaw that would secure his rights with the 11th overall pick in the draft. Going into season 98, it was clear that the Philadelphia Reapers were poised to improve tremendously and looked to be cup contenders as the season progressed. Jakub Kovar turned over a new leaf both production wise and as a locker room presence and fan favorite. He was named an alternate captain for the season along with teammates Jackson Jeannot and Adam Joy, while winger Alto Red got the nod for head captain of the team. Jakub Kovar was stellar this season for the reapers as he was the top forward on the second line for a Philadelphia squad that had the number 1 offense in the league and one of the best VHLM offenses in the hybrid-era. He secured 79 points in 72 games this season, and fell just shy of a 40 goal season with 36, which placed him 6th overall for goals in the M, and tied for the 10th spot with teammate Bazooka Joe for points. Kovar’s explosive numbers this season, while still remaining a relatively raw prospect in the VHLM, and his spot on a Reapers team that is looking to be potentially even more successful next season has some people giving him early MVP nods if he and the Warsaw Predators decide to have him stay down for 1 final draft contract season in the VHLM. Looking at TPE numbers for the first round of the S98 VHL draft, Jakub Kovar had the 4th lowest TPE total of players selected in the top 16, with only 174 TPE at the time of his selection, nearly 100 less than the pick directly before him, and 35 less than the pick directly after. However, as of May 2nd, 2025, Kovar sits as the 10th highest in terms of TPE in his draft class, with 352, and is gaining rapidly. Since the draft Kovar has earned 178 TPE, the most out of any player in the draft class and 10 above second best earner Ryan Mantzz with 168. He is one of three players to earn more than 150 TPE since draft night, those being Kovar himself, Ryan Mantzz, and Tina Hughes. With Kovar already leaping Walcott, Joe, and teammate prospect Zak Trokker, he has found himself within striking distance of overtaking Alex Bridges IV and Agustin Martinez, both players selected in the top 7 of the draft. As his career progresses it looks more and more like Kovar will be the steal of the draft in season 98. word count: 642, claiming 4/4
