Entering an Alternate Reality

With lots of What if and alternate reality posts around the news this week, we decided to do one as well. Something about "theme" week in the news and we wanted to jump aboard the train.

Our article will focus on what if Greg Eagles wasn't traded from Vancouver to Riga and if he would have still won a cup?

Greg Eagles had a very solid career in Vancouver, putting up some great stats and having his best season in S70.

In S70 Greg won the Greg Clegane and Aidan Shaw trophy. He was never able to bring the cup home to Vancouver and he was subsequently traded after his career year to Riga. With Riga Eagles stepped in right away and helped Riga win the cup in S72 and also being the Daisuke Kanou winner. Now, what happens if this trade never happened?

Could Greg have led the Wolves to a cup if given a chance?

If Eagles was never traded, we believe that he probably would not have had a cup win. In S70 the Wolves entered a mini rebuild before winning the cup in S74. S74 would have been Greg’s final season and with Riga it also ended up being his worst stats in his career due to depreciation and getting older.

Eagles always wanted to stay with the Wolves but coming off his career year yet, his stock was high and the Wolves wanted to give Eagles the chance at a cup with Riga. In this alternate universe, the Wolves decided not to trade Eagles and instead sign him to an extension that would lead him right into retirement.

During his final 4 season with the Wolves, we predict that Eagles would have some pretty decent numbers but in the grand scheme of things that he would not have been able to help the Wolves win a cup. We are even unsure if the Wolves would have made the finals with Eagles in net at that stage of his career.

Between S70 and S73, he would have had mediocre stats due to the rebuilding team which would not help him win any more awards. He may have led the young team to a wildcard spot but nothing significant.

In s74 when the Wolves won the cup in reality, Eagles would have been on his final year with diminishing abilities and stats in the alternate reality. With the way Eagles was playing in his final few seasons, we do not think he would have had the ability or energy to lead this Wolves team to the finals and win it for them. Eagles in his final seasons needed a strong defensive core in front of him and this alternate reality Wolves team was very offense heavy.

In the end, the real reality was the best way for Eagles to win a cup. We don’t see him winning with any other team other then that Riga team in S72.

Sometimes alternate realities aren’t the best and may not lead to better improvements.

@Victor Wasn't there a Greg Eagles somewhere in the S14ish era?

That was me a long while back when I found out about the league. Didn't stay very long due to time constraints (was young at that time) but refound the league in S66 and have been here since then.

Yeah it's our boi Eagleowski from the S18 squad. Although it took a lot of convincing him that it was actually his player.

I think both Reno and Eagles got their first cup since S18 in S72 so we were chatting about it in the Riga LR at the time.
