A Quick Look at the European Conference Play-in Race

With only 6-8 games left to play in S77, teams are trying to make one last push to jockey for playoff seeding or pull just enough ahead to grasp that last available spot. In the European Conference, the race is tighter than in recent memory. While the top three teams (Warsaw, Helsinki, and London) are firmly in place, there is much shifting that can happen. Prague will more than likely stay in 4th place unless they go on a streak or one of the teams above them tumble.

The real interesting race is for the last play-in spot (5th place) as the final four teams (Malmo, Davos, Riga, and Moscow) are battling each other to get to the postseason. Malmo currently has the most wins but they are at a disadvantage as they have the fewest ROW if a second tie-breaker is needed. They have won their last two games and four of their next seven games are against playoff teams. HC Davos is tied with Malmo for points but has one less win. They do hold the most ROW of the four teams though but also have the worst Goal Differential. They may have the most bizarre schedule as all seven remaining games are against NA teams with six against playoff teams. Riga has the advantage of games in hand on the other three teams and is only one point out of 5th. They also have the least Goals Against and better Goal Differential but they have the worst schedule as six of their remaining eight games are against the top five teams overall. Moscow is in last place but only by three points but they only have six games remaining. They are the highest scoring of the four teams but also the most scored on. They have the easier stretch as only half of their games are versus playoff teams.

The EU play-off race should come right down to the wire and keep fans guessing over the next few days!

FWIW as we announced before the season, wins is the first tiebreaker so Malmo would only be in trouble at the moment if they tie in both points and wins.

Right, I was hoping that was implied but I can make it clearer. Fixed it.
