Malmo Playoff Recap: Rookies Lead the Way

After barely advancing to the play-offs by securing the 5th seed in the European Conference on the last day of the S77 season on the basis of having one more win than the HC Davos Dynamo, the Malmo Nighthawks earned the right to battle the 4th seed, the Prague Phantoms, in the play-in round. On paper, the Phantoms were the better team as they scored 40 more goals and let in 33 fewer goals during the regular season but they were not naive enough to take the Nighthawks lightly. Malmo actually won the season series 3-2 with all but one of the games being decided by one goal.

Alas, the hockey gods were not on Malmo’s side as they fell in three straight games to Prague in the best-of-five series. Prague outscored their Swedish rivals 14-9 in the series and all three games were hard-fought. Rookies led the way for Malmo as they scored 6 of the Nighthawks’ 9 goals in the series led by Druss Deathwalker @animal74 who scored three. Brendan Telker @Telkster tallied two and Eddie Dams @Eddie Dams potted one. Deathwalker also led Malmo in plus-minus (+2), hits (15) and penalty minutes (10) while Telker paced the team with 21 shots. Stalwart blueliner Viktor Alexei Kamenov @BigTittySmitty led the team in assists and points with 5.
