The Season 39 Rookie Race

We are 25 games or so into the VHL's 39th Season, and the race for the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy, awarded to the leagues top rookie, is on. It's still far too early to tell anything definitive, and it's almost certainly not going to be as clear-cut as it was last season with Travis Boychuck. There are numerous players with the potential to take home the trophy, and it's still anybodies game at this point. This week, we will go over a few of the top candidates so far and take a look at what they have to offer.

#45 - Azmet Ali (RW)

Azmet (Azi) Ali, of the Quebec City Meute, was a largely underrated rookie before his entrance to the VHL. After being drafted in the second round of the Season 37 VHL Entry Draft to the HC Davos Dynamo, Ali would spend both Season 37 & 38 in the VHLM. Just prior to his entrance to the VHL, in the Season 38 off-season, Ali was moved from the Dynamo to the Meute. 23 games in, Ali has proved to be an offensive force for the Meute. With 9 goals and 11 assists, for a total of 20 points, Azmet has become one of the Meute's most lethal forwards. Ali has huge potential and is quickly becoming a crucial fixture in Quebec's rebuild.

#19 - Dimothenis Vlasis (D)

One of Cologne's most promising rookies, Dimothenis Vlasis has carried over both his superb defense and his lethal offense from the VHLM since joined the VHL at the beginning of Season 38. Vlasis was drafted to the Express 4th Overall in the Season 38 VHL Entry Draft. He spent Season 38 developing in the VHLM, and was a deadly force for the Turku Outlaws. By the end of the season, he led the league in assists and was a close contender for both top defenseman and top point scorer. So far in his VHL career, Vlasis has recorded an impressive 6 goals and 16 assists for a total of 22 points. However, his offense is only half of the story for this greek powerhouse. With 52 shots blocked and 79 hits through 23 games, his defense is just as impressive as his offense.

#71 - Jackson Miller (RW)

A rookie hailing from the Helsinki Titans, Jackson Miller has impressed people across the league with his solid offensive abilities. After being drafted to the Oslo Storm in the Season 38 VHLM Dispersal Draft, Miller was their leading scorer and, for the most part, their only real offense for much of the season. About midway through Season 38, Miller was moved to the Moscow Red Wolves. There, as he continued his impressive offense, he quickly became one of the Red Wolves' top players on their push for a Founder's Cup. Miller then went 5th Overall to Helsinki in the Season 39 VHL Entry Draft. Since entering the VHL, Miller has put up 12 goals and 4 assists for a total of 16 points. On a struggling Helsinki team, Miller has been a source of consistency for the Titans offense.

While the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy is still anybodies cup, these 3 players are, in my opinion, some of the top candidates for the award. Regardless of who wins the cup, these players all have extremely promising careers ahead of them in the VHL.

FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY

Yeah, I'd give up Azi's spot for Waldron. It's nice that my guy's in the conversation, but I feel like it's purely due to TOI. Waldron is a beast (with an awesome sigpic) on a rebuilding team.

Content: 3/3

564 words. A real nice view at the rookie scoring race thus far. You weren't overly long in your summaries, which was nice and with the right amount of content, this didn't overdo it at all. It would be interesting to see a follow-up MS about this in the coming weeks to see just where these players continue to stand and if anyone outside of these four (players like Waldron, Draper, Raymond etc.) were able to leap the mentioned players.

Grammar: 2/2

Boychuck = Boychuk

anybodies = anybody's (x2)

greek = Greek

Appearance: 1/1

Great job with the logos and the center alignment. Very clean.

Overall: 6/6
