Spartcast #5 - Money, Meta, Many Bad Ideas

Recommended Posts

No timestamps for this one, it was pretty fluid in regards to topics. I didn't even bother relistening for any issues so.....you're getting this completely raw. Good luck!

I don't like the idea of a video cast through the queue. As someone who has been in the queue it could lead to some un-needed drama. But if you want to be the face of that go ahead.

Also your idea about equipment and such too me seems like a way of making max earners greater than the clickers.

You need to be fiscally responsible

Meanwhile I'm out here bidding $69 on articles about fake hockey players based on board games.

Gronk stuff

Any elite athlete that isn't investing is really shooting themselves in the foot. Unless your financial advisor is that one dude who just stole everyone's money and yeeted. That's why players want signing bonuses and front-loaded contracts. The sooner you can invest that salary the more money it will be at the end of your career. Or just Evander Kane it all away, I guess?

Was if lifted by any chance? If so you really, really don't trust it.

99 Caps talk

Comparison to EHM as usual incoming: A lot of the thing in EHM that is usually blamed on the game being bad (which it is, to be fair) isn't actually game problems. It's database problems, players having attributes at unhealthy values. Team Reputations at incorrect values, league reputations at wrong values etc. To a player it looks like the game is just borked. But when you start dealing with the database and fixing those things, suddenly things stop breaking.

Unbreakable records talk

I mean the 80s were a thing in real hockey. So having historical eras that have unbreakable records just feels hockey at this point.

Money Education talk

So as a first gen. Is spending contract money on Doubles worth it, or should you still just be hoarding for regression fighting? I was reading and listening at the same time so I feel like I missed any conclusion, if there was one?

Getting some heavy "Double rainbow" vibes in this section.

Updater Behind the Scenes cast-thiny

I don't think it's a sustainable concept necessarily, unless people are just so consistently derping that it's a comedy goldmine. But at the very least a once off would be something I'd be down to watch. Always dig some behind the scenes stuff.

To an extent. You can try and project your career earnings to see how much you'd make. Take out the regression fighters you'd buy, the remaining can go to doubles weeks or other stuff. It's a very individual dependent question and relies heavily on the type of earner you are and the build you plan to maintain through your prime.

The issue with Bo, or not issue. But the planned path is that since I fully intend to keep him a defensive pass first specialist. His earnings *should* be less than his TPE will dictate, if that makes sense? So I doubt he will ever earn as much contract money as he could. But on the flip side he should be fighting regression on one less attribute. I obviously plan to max earn every single week of his career. But life happens, so there is no way to project that realistically.

As a massive nerd I'm interested in how these salary brackets and the rules around them work in practice. But I haven't read much on them. So I don't necessarily know what earning range that will put him in. It's far enough on the horizon that I haven't prioritized it.

This all assumes I don't fall to the dark side and just up his scoring in frustration. Which honestly, it's too early to say that I won't.

Yeah I was about to say that you should probably read how salary works once you get to the VHL. It's in the VHL rulebook, section 2 I believe. That should help you get a proper idea of how you would get money in this league once you go pro. It's not dependent on performance in the sim, but rather on how much TPA+Banked you have.

So a player can't "choose" to take a more team friendly contract then, I take it? I guess with the slightly questionably value of money that would make sense.

No, that'd set up the potential for a lot of shady shit lol

But shady shit is the best!😅 Maybe if @Daniel Janser's cap idea gets some traction we can get cap discounts on players without scoring though. Cause those are pretty much a thing IRL anyways.

- UM TECHNICALLY you can still cap at 12 with a free week vs welfare with a 10 cap. So you get 2 extra TPE immediately and a potential 2 more to hit the cap. Though I’m sure most free week purchases aren’t by people capping, so your point is still valid.

- I know you referred to one, but a detailed pinned guide to the Player Store purchases and when they’re most efficient would be good.

- “What would you even spend things on?” Introduce a member account that you can buy a team with.

- It briefly sounded like you died on air.

- I didn’t finish writing this review while listening to the podcast so now I don’t have anything specific to comment on.

In conclusion, I’m in favour of a Store overhaul.
