Veteran Jared Carter Announces Retirement

 

TORONTO - When you have a team with a young core such as the Toronto Legion's, the value of the veteran players on the roster simply cannot be understated. With talented young forwards such as Matty Fire, Kyle Peace, and Otto Numminen, having a tough, physical veteran such as Jared Carter on the team is critical for showing the young guns the ropes, along with keeping them upright on the ice. However, an unfortunate reality of the game of ice hockey is valued friends and teammates hanging up their skates and stepping away from the game, and that’s exactly what Toronto will be facing after Carter announced that Season 81 will be his last.

 

“It will be a big loss for sure,” remarked goaltender Oskar Lindbergh. “He’s been a huge deterrent to make other teams think twice about hitting our young players, and Jared has been so good with helping us learn how to be pro players. We aren’t the team we are right now without him.”

 

 

Carter, who has 12 points in 45 games so far this season, still has plenty of gas left in the tank for his last season. His hat trick, for example, was crucial for an upset victory over the Malmo Nighthawks, but he doesn’t need to make the score sheet to make an impact for Toronto. His 108 hits leads all forwards on the team, and is well-respected by his teammates, who are inspired to send him out on top with a Continental Cup championship.

 

“We doin’ it for Jared, boys!” Matty Fire was overheard saying to his teammates before a recent game. After finishing last in the VHL with 30 points last season, the Toronto Legion are on pace to reach the playoffs and the next step in making that dream a reality.
