Scurvy 1,495
Where are they now? The season 81 team of the San Diego Marlins had some major young talent leading up to the draft. While they didn’t make it to the finals that year, many on that team are guaranteed to be future VHL stars. Let’s start in goal. That season the Marlins had two great goaltenders. Dusty Wilson- @dustywilson22The dust bin was a more than reliable back up that went 44th overall in the VHL draft. While earning backup minutes he was a steady and reliable hand when between the pipes. He is currently with the Cologne Express learning from goaltending stud Anime Protagonist. We expect in no time Wilson will be a go to leader in the VHL. Bubbles Utonium- @fishy When God created goaltenders he had Utonium in mind. Drafted 2nd overall in the VHL by the D.C Dragons we expect he will be a household name in just a few short years. This dude is a stud and stops pucks. Currently with a struggling Vasteras Iron Eagles team he is getting top minutes and earning TPE like a beast. DEFENSE Nikita Eklund- A passing machine he led the Marlin’s dcore with 75 assists. Currently in the E for Cologne he has gone a little quiet but lookout when his game is going. He’s deadly. Maxwell Mathias- What can you say bad about this Dman? NOTHING. @Underclass_HeroDrafted 15th overall by Warsaw he’s currently tearing up the E for Geneva. A defensive shut down artist and offensively gifted he is probably the defenseman all new defensemen should model their game after. Tavish Degroot – Like Mathias, Degroot @roryis potentially another hall of famer. Plays an offensive game with a heavy dose of GRIT! With 220 hits and 162 PIMs for the Marlins he makes opposing forwards pay for coming near him. A potential #1 overall draft status he fell to the New York Americans at #20. Making the jump directly to the show has not stunted his ability. He is currently scoring and smashing people in New York. Brian Payne- A VHLM rookie last year he started slow trying to adjust to better competition. Under the leadership of his management team and a strong defensive core mentoring him his game grew a ton. He plays a heavy game and enjoys stopping pucks and hitting his opposition. Drafted 26th overall by Warsaw he is currently in the E for the Bratislava Watchman. Playing alongside former VHLM rival, Bo Johansson @Shindigs look for great things in the future for this bruising Dman. FORWARDS: Johnny Xavier- Xavier was a constant on the scoresheet for the Marlins in S81. A power play genius and pure offensive talent. He was drafted in 81 by Helsinki he is currently scoring like crazy in the E for Cologne. The Board Game Clue on Skates- Arguably the best name in Hockey all time. Right next to Ogie Oglethorpe. This dude is a STUD! Pure offensive scorer and amazing teammate. He was a scoring machine for the Marlins with 32 goals. Drafted 4th overall by Chicago in the VHL. He is currently in the E for the Geneva Rush where he is over a point a game. It will be exciting to see him grow into a hall of fame forward in the VHL for sure. A definite Lady Bing candidate too as he only had 12 PIMS on a team that was known for their mean streak. Drafted by LA in the VHL he is currently playing for the Vasteras Iron Eagles where he has 12 goals in 18 games for them. While there are many more players on the Marlins that could be listed here, I will be end here. The Marlins were a solid, active, and fun team to be a part of and it showed on the ice. While they didn’t win a championship, they formed a bond and created players who want the VHL to be a competitive and fun place to play. We look forward to seeing these former teammates battle it out. 682 MubbleFubbles, dustywilson22, Shindigs and 2 others 4 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/116457-marlins-where-are-they-now/ Share on other sites

That's a multi. 13 hours ago, Scurvy said: Bubbles Utonium Bubbles is one of the power puff girls. So probably should be "she". Other than that it was a good read as usual. These kinds of pieces are a fun way to get some perspective on the league, and apparently also a good way of finding multis that the league forgot to delete. Who knew?
