Tyler 885
Playoff Season Approaching With Season 39 nearing its end, everyone's eyes are turning to the playoffs as the top teams in the VHL are looking to make their run at the Continental Cup. Unless something happens, the playoff teams will be New York, Calgary, Seattle, Davos, Riga and Vasteras. It looks pretty clear that New York and Davos will get byes through the first round as well, and today Vegas released their first round of odds for the playoffs that are set to start in a couple of weeks. Vegas has released their odds for the upcoming VHL playoffs. Season 39 VHL Odds Makers New York Americans - 5-1 HC Davos Dynamo - 8-1 Vasteras Iron Eagles - 11-1 Riga Reign - 13-1 Seattle Bears - 30-1 Calgary Wranglers - 30-1 The Americans, being the top team in the league with just 11 regulation losses in 60 games, are also the team with the best odds to win the entire league. This adds even more pressure to a team that has, in the past, not done so well when the pressure was on. New York has historically struggled in times when many pundits placed them as favorites to win the league. The Americans added Bennet Wahl at the deadline, and his sneakiness and finesse is expected to add to an already potent and creative attacking game. The question mark for them is in net as Brick Wahl has been inconsistent this year, but if he plays as he has at his best parts, New York will be unstoppable. Next in line we have Davos, who are likely to become European Champions of the Regular Season and are led by goalie Lennox Moher and an all around team defense that has seen the team give up just 111 goals so far, a league best. The Dynamo are a team that lacks depth, but they do have significant star power, and like always, with a hot goalie in the next, they will always be a threat to win it all. Davos will have to rely heavily on stars such as Thomas Landry and Naomi Young if they want to pull it off. Davos are a team run by team defense and commitment to a team effort. Riga is an interesting case and they may yet be the best odds of the entire league. At 13-1, it's a good pay out and with a strong cast of characters, and especially with the recent addition of Niklas Valiq from Quebec, it seems Riga are a competitor. At 11-1, we have Vasteras who themselves made significant additions at the deadline and are looking like a solid choice as well. With netminder Eggly Bagelface putting up some of his best numbers yet and superstars Williem Janssen, Niklas Lindberg and the recently acquired Davis Collier up front, there is very little to find in terms of a flaw with the Iron Eagles this year. The only issue is the weight of history and if the team can live up to the immense pressures placed on them by so many pundits. Last but not least, we have the forgotten crew. Calgary and Seattle are not going to win the Continental Cup this year, but what they can do is be a pest in the sides of the other North Americans teams and one of them will play the Americans hard in the Conference Finals, although you would be hard pressed to make a serious argument for one of those clubs to win. Calgary did recently make some aggressive moves at the deadline, but it is still not likely they can beat New York, although it does seem they are poised to give Seattle a really tough battle in round one. With the Vegas odds now out, it is clearly time for everyone to start making their bets as to who they believe will win the Continental Cup. As seen above, New York are favorites but it would not be the first time a team from the Big Apple disappointed in the post season if they were to falter. There is a reason the games are played on the ice and not in the books, and it will be interesting to see how many twists and turns will be seen in the upcoming playoffs. Da Trifecta 1,899
Content: 3/3 The playoffs are going to be interesting. Hopefully we see the Americans face off against Davos. That is favoritism of course but playoffs are always surprising.
