Why Em Em Flex Will be the Greatest "What If?"

                    At only 19 years old, Em Em Flex @oilmandan was considered one of the "up and coming" players in the VHL forum. A goaltender out of Ukraine, Flex looked like the best goaltender project in the league at one point, and had a long career ahead of him.

 

                   Drafted early in the VHLM draft (S79, 10th overall - Miami Marauders) Flex had already had a year of experience in the league, and definitely one he would've loved to forget. Playing in 72 games for Miami during S78, Flex had a record of 12-58-2, posting a .857 SV % and a 4.63 GAA. However, with the help that he must have received in the S79 draft from Miami, his numbers took a huge jump. In the regular season of S79, Flex recorded a 48-17-7 record, posting a .901 SV % and a 2.53 GAA, including 5 shutouts. He backstopped Miami in the playoffs, recording a 12-6 record, with a .905 SV % and 2.73 GAA, with 2 shutouts. His efforts helped Miami capture the Founders Cup, the winners of the VHLM playoffs. He also acquired both the Benoit Devereux and Skylar Rift Trophies, cementing himself as a top goaltender in the league and positioning himself to be high draft pick in the VHL draft, where he seemed to fit in just fine.

 

                  Drafted 11th overall (S79) by the Seattle Bears, Flex spent a season in the VHLE where he produced a nice season, putting up a 35-12-4 record, with a .916 SV% and a 3.49 GAA, and 2 shutouts. In what seemed to be a necessary call-up to the then-struggling Seattle Bears. Throughout his 3 regular seasons with Seattle, he recorded a 110-47-15 record, with a .921 SV% and a 2.84 GAA, as well as 13 shutouts. In the playoffs, Flex recorded a 14-6-4 record, putting up a .912 SV%, with a 2.79 GAA and 1 shutout. Throughout his VHL career, he picked up three awards: the Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy, the best rookie in the league for S81, the Daisuke Kanou Trophy, the best player in the VHL playoffs, and the Continental Cup, for the champion of the VHL playoffs. 

 

                  Unfortunately, he took a large hit in depreciation this past week, losing 98 TPE. In what could have been a scary sight for the future of Flex, he ultimately retired from the VHL at 19. 

 

                   Seattle responded to his retirement press conference by wishing him well in his future. "We are saddened by the announcement by (Flex) to retire at such a young age. We feel like he was a big part of our recent championship season and we knew he had gobs of potential. However, we support his decision to spend time with his family and to focus on the next chapter of his life of being a door-to-door salesman of Girl Scout Cookies (I like the Thin Mints)." 

                   

                  Personally, I believe that Em Em Flex should be a hall of famer. It may not be popular, and he may not have a long track record, but he has accolades that could name him a HOFer. Many wish that he would've stayed longer in the league, but we hope that oilmandan can create a player who was just as good, if not better, than Em Em Flex.
