animal74 1,918 Posted September 4, 2022 Share Posted September 4, 2022 After feeling quite certain that the Aces Ā would miss out on one of the Top-5 goalies in the S85 VHLM Draft, Las Vegas GM @ShindigsĀ was ecstatic when Joel Castle @animal74, who signed with the team as a free agent late last season and contributed to the Acesā second consecutive Founderās Cup victory, fell to them at pick #13. @ShindigsĀ cited familiarity with the player and Castleās āwinning pedigreeā as reasons why the Canadian puck stopper was the easy selection. Castle did end up being the fifth goalie chosen but was the fourth of the āBig 5ā after his Junior Showcase teammate Lachlan Summers @kirbithanĀ was a surprise pick by San Diego at 6th overall and Fuukka Rask @JubisĀ was selected right after Castle at 14th by Ottawa. Halifax snagged another Canadian goalie, Ash Sparks @DarkSpyro, at 15th for an unprecedented seven goaltenders selected in the first 15 picks of the draft. Ā While Castle thought he would go higher, he is excited that he gets to stay with Las Vegas. It was the make or break pick for our entire draft, and I really had 2 goalies I desperately wanted there.
