Siyan Yasilievich - Named HC Davos Dynamo Captain for Second Season

We caught up with Siyan Yasilievich, the newly appointed captain for HC Davos Dynamo and we asked him some questions regarding his captaincy, his plans for the season, and what's to come!

Interviewer: This is your second season being named the captain, what is going to be different this time around?

"I believe that last season was a learning experience for me. I ended up not putting up the same amount of production that I would have liked, and there was a lot of responsibility on my shoulders. Now with a season under my belt, I feel like a lot of the stress and anxiety I had in my first season are no longer there. I will be able to lead the team better than I was last season and I believe that this season will be my best season yet."

Interviewer: Jake Thunder, a defenseman who was selected later in the draft you were selected in put up 90 points last season and seems to be a steal. He seems to be stealing the spotlight, do you have anything to say about this?

"If you're expecting me to say something bad about my teammate or anything, you're not going to get that response. Jake Thunder has already blossomed into a top line defenseman and is showing all the teams that passed on him what kind of mistake they've made. I believe that for myself, I am not at the level yet, but I will reach there. I have other responsibilities that Jake Thunder doesn't have, however I believe that he is a fantastic player and will be able to lead us on the scoresheet for seasons to come."

Interviewer: Do you have any expectations for this upcoming season? The season is only a week away and I was wondering if you've already got a goal in mind.

"Obviously I have a goal in mind that I think every single player has, which is to win the cup. Realistically, I think that this season as a team, our goal is to make it further in the playoffs, because it seems every single season we win the wildcard round, only to lose in the next round pretty bad. It would be a huge milestone for us to get past that. As for personal goals, I would like to put up over 60 points and start to solidify myself as a top line defenseman, and an elite playmaker."

Just as his finished answering his question, someone ran into the room, seemingly late to the interview. Siyan was very confused at who this person is, but nevertheless, he honored their request and they poised him a question.

???: Hello there, sorry for being late! With you entering your third season, you will be playing on the top line for Davos. With that, Davos is also seeing a group of brand new players joining the team. How are you going to guide and also assist the Davos rookies that will be joining the team?

"A good question for being late. Yeah, of course with the draft being over and a new set of rookies coming along, I've already got to meet some of them in the training camp. They all seem very eager to make the starting lineup in the future and they are going to be great players one day. I think a lot of these players have unpolished talent, just like I did when I came in. They seem to be very good at a specific set of skills, and it's helping them get those skills to the next level so they can make an impact. I've also had the time to take Lachlan Summers and John Richards out to dinner when they were here a couple days ago for training camp before they went to Europe. We had a great time and they were amazing company to be around. They're right around the corner of potentially making our starting lineup maybe next season, so I'll get to meet them more!"

Interviewer: Recently, you signed a two year extension with the HC Davos Dynamo, can you give me some insight on that?

"Of course. I knew that I wanted to stay in Davos, due to the fact that I really have enjoyed my time here. The atmosphere and culture here is great, where everyone is inclusive and we've got a close bond in the locker room. It seems that every single player really wants to be here and be apart of the solution, which is something that you always want on a team. I also have played for GM Alex in the minors, and if he's willing to use a draft pick on me and trust me, I trust him."

Interviewer: Follow up question, any clue how long you'll stay in Davos?

"Well, I only just signed my extension so I'd say it's a bit way to think about that. As long as things go as planned I'll be here for a while."

Interviewer: Well, I've got two questions left and we're done here. My first question, how close do you believe Davos is to finally winning a cup?

"Yep. I believe that we are very close to being able to make that run and win a championship. Like I said earlier, we've got some great talent up and coming and on top of that, we have players who want to be apart of that solution. Players who want to win for the organization, and vice versa. I think it should be very soon and we'll be lifting that trophy."

Interviewer: This brings me to my last question, is there anything you want to say to all the fans of Davos?

"Of course. I want to thank every single person who has been supporting Davos, regardless if I've been here or not. I know it's been a tough time supporting Davos, especially since this franchise is "cursed" in most people's eyes. My goal here is to bring Davos a championship and finally break that curse. I believe we have the management, the players, the prospects to do so. Everyone here is bought in and it shouldn't be very far away until Davos will be lifting that championship."

Interviewer: Thank you for your time and good luck this season!

"Thank you."

As the interview is over and the reporters are leaving the room, Siyan spots the unnamed reporter leaving the room. Siyan walks up to them, and they accidently bump into each other, where a "Las Vegas Aces" pin falls off their jacket. The unnamed reporter apologizes and quickly runs out of them room before Siyan can give them their pin back and he is left there staring at the pin confused.
