S40 Riga All-Time Team

Chris Julien - Layken Heidt - Miles Larsson

Torsten Schwarz - Olivier Scarlett

Marek Van Urho

C - Layken Heidt (S7-S12)

GP: 432 G: 267 A: 349 PTS: 616 +/- 255 PIM: 321 HIT: 130 SB: 101

When Riga’s GMs thought of how they could lead the team to great heights, the first player they thought of was Layken Heidt. Early in the Reign’s franchise history, the Stockholm Rams were widely known as a team wallowing in mediocrity. In S7, the Rams' fortunes went on the upswing when they drafted Layken Heidt with the first overall pick of the S7 draft. Heidt was a premier center for the Rams, as he logged 267 goals and 349 assists during his 432 game regular season career. Heidt’s quality play of 1.4 points per game along with his outstanding leadership made him a key face of the Rams' turnaround. With Heidt’s leadership, the Reign franchise secured its first ever Continental Cup victory in Season 10. While Heidt never earned any major awards during his time with the Rams, he is beloved by all in Riga for bringing a successful atmosphere to the franchise.

W - Chris Julien (S1-S8)

GP: 567 G: 341 A: 370 PTS: 711 +/- -16 PIM: 379 HIT: 239 SB: 78

No one will ever play as many games for Stockholm/Riga as Chris Julien did. This is because not only did he spend his entire career in Stockholm, but because he played from the inaugural season of the VHL, he actually got nine seasons out of his career. He is the only player to get over 300 goals for the team, and in his 576 games played he stockpiled 711 points - the most by a large margin. In Season 3 he was awarded Top Leader (Grim Johnson Trophy) and still holds the franchise record for most powerplay goals in a single season with 19. Chris Julien was Riga's first, and greatest, superstar and it is a hard-pressed idea to believe that anyone will usurp that from the hearts of those in Riga.

W - Miles Larsson (S28-S34)

GP: 504 G: 240 A: 281 PTS: 521 +/- 104 PIM: 900 HIT: 2343 SB: 244

No one can argue the impact that Miles Larsson had on the Riga organization. No one has scored more game winning goals for Riga than him - a whopping 47. He had his number 53 retired soon after his retirement in Season 34; only 10 others have had that honour. Miles averaged over a point per game in his 504-game career and accumulated a monstrous 2343 hits. There is little doubt that he was one of the most dangerous wingers to ever lace up for the Reign and through his eventful career has earned his place on the All-Time Riga All-Star Team

D - Torsten Schwarz (S7-S12)

GP: 432 G: 122 A: 340 PTS: 462 +/- 134 PIM: 342 HIT: 216 SB: 629

Torsten Schwarz is one of the best offensive defensemen in the history of the Riga Reign. Averaging exactly half a hit per game and about one and a half shots blocked per game, Schwarz was not renowned for his defensive acumen. However, his offensive skills from the blue line helped propel the Riga Reign to their first ever Continental Cup Championship in Season 10. Over 432 games with the Reign, Schwarz amassed 122 goals and 340 assists for a total of 462 points, good enough for sixth in Reign history and first among defensemen.

D - Olivier Scarlett (S18-S24)

GP: 504 G: 83 A: 326 PTS: 409 +/- 85 PIM: 1054 HIT: 1113 SB: 901

It shouldn't even be a discussion as to why Scarlett was picked to be on the All-Time Riga Team; it should be a given. Scarlett and Riga are synonymous. He spent his entire illustrious career in Riga and only one player has ever gotten more appearances in a Riga shirt than him. In 504 games, the classy defenseman was a  brick wall on the blue line, accumulating 1113 hits and 901 shots blocked. He was captain for the team for a number of seasons and one of the most highly respected members to ever be a part of the VHL. Olivier Scarlett was, and always will be... Riga.

G - Marek Van Urho (S9-S14)

GP- 255 W- 197 L- 43 T- 12 Sv%- 0.923 GAA- 1.99 SO- 33

Van Urho played on Riga from Season 9 through Season 14. Although he was one of the first goaltenders to ever play for Riga, and only spent 6 seasons there, to this day he still holds the most number of wins with 245. He also has 37 shutouts in that time - significantly more than anyone else to suit up for Riga. His save percentage over his 386 games was a highly respectable .920. His number, like most players on this All-Time All-Star team, was retired and hangs in the rafters of their home arena as constant reminder to the old and new Riga fans that a legend once crouched between the pipes and dedicated his best performances of his career to his team. Van Urho will always be remembered in Riga.
