Moscow Menace forward Ronan Lavelle is coming off an S88 season where he led the VHL in points, capturing the
Mike Szatkowski Trophy as well as the Brett Slobodzian Trophy for Most Outstanding Player. Lavelle entered S89 looking to add to his resume and elevate his game even more. He had to if he hopes to have any shot at any kind of HOF discussions. Entering the final game against the London United, Lavelle led Prague forward John Jameson by 1 point with Jameson having one game in hand. Lavelle knew he had to post up numbers to be able to repeat the Szatkowski. He also was 5 goals ahead of Jameson for the most goals which would land him the Kevin Brooks Trophy. Lavelle delivered. He scored 2 goals and setup his favorite line mate Tomas Sogaard as the Menace managed to clinch the Victory Cup with a convincing 4-2 victory against the London United. So far this is what Lavelle has on his resume:

S82 Ronan Lavelle Trophy (VHLE MVP)
S84 Dustin Funk Trophy
S85 Continental Cup
S85 Daisuke Kanou Trophy
S88 Mike Szatkowski Trophy
S88 Brett Slobodzian Trophy
S89 Mike Szatkowski Trophy
S89 Kevin Brooks Trophy

Could Lavelle also add a Campbell and/or another Slobodzian? These would be huge additions to his resume. And if he could add another Kanou, that would just be huge. It also comes down to Lavelle’s final season in S90 and how that goes. He will need to eclipse the 700 mark to be hopeful. But when asked about them Lavelle just smirked and said “Personal awards are nice but there is only one piece of hardware I’m thinking about.” As he motioned towards the Continental Cup. “The only MVP trophy I’m interested in seeing in my showcase is another Kanou Trophy. None of this would have been possible if I didn’t have guys like Tomas Sogaard and Hammar Voss sharing the ice with me. We also have had the best goaltender in the league this season in Wallob. We will need him to stay on his game to win.” Lavelle concluded. We see Lavelle has his eye on the prize but from the outside of Lavelle adds another cup and potentially playoff MVP, the resume itself is impressive enough. He just needs to bulk up his point totals in S90.

The Menace were the best team in the VHL in the S89 regular season, they’ve had a long and prosperous era of success since Euron Leonidas has been in office, they’ve done literally everything but win a cup. Lavelle’s tenure on the Menace has been successful during the regular season, however the team has had major hiccups in the postseason. This includes a S88 collapse where Moscow had a 3-1 series led on rival HC Davos and ended up losing the series. This season the Menace await who they will play after the Wildcard round. It is between the defending champion London United or always dangerous Prague Phantoms. This S89 team has the talent, can Lavelle bring his regular season success into helping Moscow in the postseason?

Article Review: Well written article, a nice balance between humility and personal drive s depicted within this piece of writing.  The focus on the players dream of reaching the VHL Hall of Fame and the understanding of what it will take to get there.  Good luck in your quest for personal glory.  There are a lot of great teams standing in your way, but as London proved in Season 88, sometime it just takes a couple players to step up and you can see amazing results.

I give this article an 8/10
