Recruitment, how were you recruited?

On the topic of recruitment...

Of course, Recruitment has been a hot topic the past couple of weeks, including this weeks theme week. I feel like everyone is talking about how to "better" recruitment, which is a very good topic at the end of the day. However, I wanted to take a bit of a different approach that I feel like will at least maybe shine some light on things that have and haven't worked for recruitment, that being: How were you recruited? I'll obviously share my story, but I was in another server at the time that is like a hockey general manager online experience type of deal. I actually had the SHL brought up to me beforehand, but I didn't really want to commit to anything yet, so I didn't end up joining. After a while, @JB123 and @samx ended up bugging me enough that I ended up joining the VHL and I'm here now. Now obviously, I'm not saying that every single person has personal connections to people and that's how they're going to end up bringing people in, but it was nice to have some sort of personal touch that ended up keeping me around a while. I've also seen a VHL ad on a youtuber before, (forgot who at the time), but it for sure caught my eye when I did end up watching it. Now I'm by no means someone who knows how to recruit, as usually my recruiting for anything just is messaging people with DMs, and it doesn't work, but some sort of personal touch to people would go a long way. I don't actually know if something like this is possible, or how you'd do it, but it would be super nice to have to help us get more people on the site. Also, another thing to keep in mind is that we had a TON of people during COVID-19, which made a bunch of sense, as people had more free time. The numbers are going to go down regardless, because people are not going to have that free time anymore. I also will say, just chucking out graphics that "look" nice didn't really work, as you have not a ton of context behind them, not going to lie. Regardless, I was wondering how everyone here was recruited and what were things that did, and also didn't work. Maybe this could end up helping out recruitment as live feedback from the entire community would be beneficial!

On another note, I do hope we get some new members around. I will say that I've gotten a couple of my friends to join, and they've had mixed feelings about it so far. However, my one friend who is currently in the M is having a blast, even if he's just a clicker. Every single day he checks the sims and posts them in the group chat we have and he talks about how his player is doing. I want everyone to know that just because people are clickers, doesn't mean that they don't have just a good of time as people who max earn. I hope my friend can end up getting an award or two, as he's one of the top goalies in the M currently and it would be great to see him win!

YouTube video autoplayed for me.  I probably browsed the forum for a couple weeks before joining and then probably another week after that before creating a player.

I really only joined because I had an idea about how I could get a player going in 3D.  Once I did that, I created my player.

Stayed away from Discord for the first season though.  Too much nonsense while I tried to figure out the forum.

I had definitely seen the subreddit ads (on r/BostonBruins I think?) long before I decided to actually join, maybe even years before. I got recruited kinda by @Enorama and kinda by @flatl99 talking about it in our EHM League, and even at first I was skeptical of adding unneeded "homework" to my routine. But as Eno explained to me that it could basically be summed down to 20 mins or so per week, I decided to create. I do agree that there's something about a personal connection while being recruited and having someone to always bounce questions or ideas off of or at least guide you through your first few days/weeks here.
