Jarkko, The End

Jarkko Olsen is now officially done with the VHL. He will never play another minute on the ice in this league, but he sure went out in style. Olsen came out of the gates as a sure-fire, can't miss prospect, drafted in the first round by the Riga Reign. He fizzled out quickly, and was labeled a bust and shipped to the Dynamo. Davos is where he found his footing and carved out a role for himself in the league, winning two cups in the process and developing into a respectable player in the league. Then Davos began to crumble, a dynasty no more, and Olsen had one year of eligibility left. He considered hanging them up then, calling it quits, but he decided that he had one more thing he wanted to accomplish.

Olsen decided to go back to Riga, to do whatever he could to help bring them the title they had been fighting for ever since Olsen came into the league with their colors on in S34. Were they cursed by Olsen's absence? Unlikely, but his departure had led to 0 cups for the Reign and 2 for his new team in Davos. So he went back at the trade deadline, helping the team secure a playoff spot and after a tough series with Helsinki and a slight slow down in Cologne, they found themselves in the finals, matched up against the defending champion New York Americans.

Suddenly the Reign had a 3-0, insurmountable series lead. New York pulled out a win in game four, and took the Reign to overtime in game five, looking to make a legitimate series out of it. Olsen struck in overtime, the last shot he will ever take in the VHL, perhaps his most defining moment, the role player took a step forward, if only for a second, and slapped in the game winner to secure the cup for the Riga Reign. Jarkko played a small part, but he was a part at least, of the Reign getting that elusive championship, and will now retire with 3 championship rings in his "what could have been" career.

Hopefully KJA finishes his career like this.. So far he is a bust.. Blaming Riga for killing him

Oh yeah it's all about being traded from Riga, spending time away in a team which resembles Davos and then coming back to Riga and winning them a cup.

There's actually a funny story about that, but then there was that pesky rule about re-acquiring a player previously traded away.

6.6 – Reacquiring a Player Previously Traded

A player may not be re-acquired by the same team within the next 2 seasons (including the one the player was traded in) via trade.

Example:

Calgary trades New York Scotty Campbell in Season 1 off-season. New York cannot trade Scotty Campbell back to Calgary until Season 3 off-season.

Teams looking to re-acquire a player within the time period specified will have to submit an application to the commissioners.

:hmm:
