Gaikoku-hito 2,224
I don`t agree with you assessment of the Malmo situation and the trade that they completed since they didn`t buy a ton as you claim. I would prefer to hear more constructive criticism rather then saying that Malmo is going to be shit, I would like to hear or see more data to prove that they are going to be shit. So, Let me analyze the trade and the next moves that Lucy can make to improve the roster: The Trade: (S96) D - Narnia Shaw - Traded for S99 MAL 1st - Added a 4th defender that was VHL ready and should make up the future of the blueline in Malmo; Pick will be a mid pick so looking at welfare player in return for player that is earning 12TPE per week. (S95) LW - Bret Weier - S98 RIG 2nd & S99 MAL 2nd - added a depth forward that was VHL ready (gave up either welfare player or inactive picks as drafts have been weak lately (S96) RW - Xhekajs middletoe (HFX) - traded for 3rds & 4ths: Depth player that can earn when he wants and will be VHL ready next season (S94) C - Ty Duke (HFX) - traded for 3rds & 4ths: depth player that will be VHL ready next season. So gave up 1 player but got 4 players back in return that will play for Malmo as soon as next season. That is a clear win even if it looks like a loss. It about knowing the current value and future values of draft picks with 3rd & 4th actually being rather worthless in my opinion at the moment. Even a late 1st and 2nd round picks are risky at the moment. GM Player trade: Lucy Leitner - traded for 12th overall selection in this draft & 11th overall in this past draft; so gave up two welfare picks for a Star defender. Clear win!! Not to mention timeline for these players to make your roster as the timeline is two or three seasons at best. Now future roster breakdown: Malmo Nighthawks have a set roster for next season with Raves & Kemp leading the way offensively and continued growth of three rookies that she acquired above in the questionable trade (not really but that is how most view it) So she is looking for a single forward to fill out her roster and has somewhere around $10.5M to spend means if she is aggressive enough she can buy another forward this season (S98) and maybe beyond to play along since Kemp & Raves; unlikely she will find two forwards but it comes down to the trades that she will try to make. Every off season starts with teams up against the cap and as you have stated some team looking to sell aggressively. She just needs to be aggressive in buying and I think Malmo could have a good team but one that clearly is taking a step back. So what teams are looking to sell this off season? Vancouver, Moscow, HC Davos, Seattle, New York and maybe even Calgary as they are all close to the salary cap and might look at trying to improve their roster long term outlook. Chicago also looks to be a team aggressively selling since they have no player signed next season and this doesn`t include teams looking to move off of older assets for anything of value in return. Okay, I can already hear you saying but she has no assets to trade but one must not forget that she has draft picks as season ending as she will have S100 picks available to trade so giving up an S100 1st & 2nd to bring a player in now for two or three season should be her goal and will make her team competitive again next season. Currently rebuilding through the draft is too risky so being able to retool using futures at the moment is safer call!! While I won`t go into details of who I think she should target during the off season but if she looks closely she should be able to see a few good players to target to keep her team competitive next season and beyond. Should she trade Rave & Kemp for future assets; NO!! But if she can find a deal that improves her roster by moving one of these assets then she must consider it!! Malmo isn`t as bad off as some might think!! The only thing I think Malmo did lose out on was that S97 11th OVR pick where they could have taken D-Mikko Tuomala who couldve been a Top Earning 1000+ TPE defenseman for their future. But the Malmo time to win was closing so i think the trade that was made gave them the best chance of winning in the end. Also, @Xhekajsleftankle is the #1 earning VHL User (as of yesterday) this past month, like Shaw and Weier made the trade look even ish to me if even just a small loss, but the way this player is coming around and grinding out TPE make it a big time W. I don't get why this trade (or really any) is viewed as this team winning and that one losing. Both teams won here. I doubt @McLovin was gonna turn these players into the high earners the same way Lucy has, not to say he is a bad GM or anything like that, it's just really hard sometimes to make the VHLM/VHL transition with a new GM you barely know and go to bat for them. Lucy is just able to get the best out of these guys and for McLovin, he took what he saw as B- prospects and turned them into an A, ain't a problem with that at all. But once I knew there would be a locker room in the VHL with a GM I knew and loved, I wanted to get there as quick as possible, and I intend to continue this streak of earning to the best of my abilities. I don't know if there is another GM that can provide results as well as she can whilst genuinely giving enjoyment to the players she has. I am here to have fun above all, and I feel like the best way I can do that is with Lucy, I wouldn't want to be with any other GM. Thank you Lucy! I have genuinely found a love for the VHL and it would be a lie to give anybody else a majority of the credit. LucyXpher 1,753
I genuinely thought about going through and offering some argument, point by point, but it’s really not worth my time. My time on this forum would be better spent interacting with the amazing players I got to know this past season and continuing to work toward the future for Malmo. It’s clear you have no interest or imagination to see things from my perspective. Somehow the only viable way forward is your way, and for whatever reason, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder about this whole thing which I will never understand. Anyway, you said it yourself, I “failed”, so what point is there in me trying to argue with that kind of all or nothing viewpoint? I think people underrate how hard rebuilding is when 4 other teams want to do it too. Like you all are competing to sell players to the contenders and it's difficult. When you cant sell assets easily building a prospect pool to promote activity is hard. But you'll get there eventually, you got a couple of great foundational pieces, just gotta get scoring and hit on these late picks, recruit so buddies to make those classes deeper lol McLovin 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/154703-vhl-ramblings-5-im-right/#findComment-1052260 Share on other sites

A retool is generally what contenders who hit the cap have to go through to drop some cap, shuffle the roster but still come out with solid results. The teams you mentioned do it well, yes. Warsaw in grapes example or any of the rebuilders is just perpetual rebuild because they can't get players to buy into what they're building. Disengaged players either want out or more commonly go IA. I obviously don't know what goes on in most LRs of rebuilders, but if the same trends happen to the same teams, it paints a picture. Malmo's situation just resembles what Chicago after Jeff or LA after the Vandelay class retired, or Prague after the Jameson class retired, looked like. Some of them (Chicago) got players to buy in under Cole and they made themselves respectful. We can see where the other two teams have gotten since then. Malmo shouldn't have an issue getting players to buy in to their rebuild or retool coming up, but they have no assets for the next 2 seasons unless they commit to a rebuild with whoever isn't retiring. It's not rocket science, they'll just be worse in the EU but probably still a playoff team since the other 4 EU teams are lost in the sauce. badcolethetitan, Triller and Grape 2 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/154703-vhl-ramblings-5-im-right/#findComment-1052261 Share on other sites

This assessment is valid, I think that's why I don't get any of the criticism of the trades, like clearly Lucy has a great ability to get players to buy in... She did it in HFX and she is doing it with the people we have now, she had us so bought in not one player on our team who was a pending retiree recreated at the TDL. So the lack of confidence in her to continue getting people in on Malmo and keeping them engaged I just don't understand from a logical POV. We will not be great, but still a playoff team, and honestly I wouldn't be shocked if we find our way back to contending before most of these other EU teams do.
