Admin Victor 11,338 Posted Saturday at 07:54 PM Admin Share Posted Saturday at 07:54 PM So when was the last FA with multiple big prizes? In recent seasons two elite goalies hit the market in Olober Syko and Merome Dilson, as did Adi Dassler back in S95, a move that paid off for Calgary last season in a big way. It's been slim pickings in the 90s otherwise. In S89, David Rashford, a future top scorer, signed for Moscow but he had just been drafted and not offered a contract by Helsinki. Probably S85 when Jerome Reinhart, Poopy Peepants, and Henri le Massif all changed teams in FA, was the last big FA off-season. So not as long as I thought. But compared to the excitement FA generated in the past, namely up to the early 60s or so, it feels a bit empty. More selfish players like me and Ironhide needed ASAP! Also, it is clear that free agency interests people, its get content, it gets people talking, and it gets activity on the forums. So do trades but this isn't about what's working, this is about what can be better. And FA is certainly one of those things. Perhaps it requires some tweaks, maybe signing-on bonuses (not counting against the cap) or other perks to moving from team to team. Perhaps offset by some loyalty bonuses to make things fair, but ones that can only be unlocked after a long-term career in one place, not like 4-5 seasons. And of course, the salary cap, what should that look like in an ideal world? Should every team have space for a big name FA? In theory, yes. Things to ponder, but for now at least we added a bit of unpredictability into the equation for S99. Old heads keeping the FA flame burning smh Free agency is fun as long as everyone is in the same page it's going to happen. Can help a lot with your players career too - not sure Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen makes the HoF if I stayed in Davos my entire career. Gaikoku-hito 2,431
I really want to make a player where I am not loyal and move either every season or every second season. But it is hard to do when I keep being acquired by the team that I help manage so loyalty seems like the only option but then again when I think about @Frank has now traded my players twice after I signed career long contracts. Maybe I should be so loyal after all!! Keep the guy on his toes a bit more or start rejecting his trades since I normally have a NTC; but now that I have said that he will never give me a NTC again!! And be able to trade me with asking!! Ugh!! But yeah, UFA could be a fun option with a player as it gives you a bit more control of where you want to play!!
