After getting third win, Vikings are thinking playoffs

Recommended Posts

After winning their first game of the season, the Stockholm Vikings lost 37 games in a row. At this point, things were looking bleak for their first season after moving from Vasteras. Winners of two of the next six, bringing their point total to 11 in 44 games, the Vikings are looking at a quick turnaround.

It started with a win over so-called cup contenders in the Cologne Express. A strong game from STO G, allowing just one goal on 32 shots, seems to have given the Vikings new life. Rookie Lloyd Light carried the team to their third win a few games later against the Toronto Legion, notching four points in the best game of his career.

Just 48 points behind the Express and the Reign, the Vikings are not yet out of the playoff hunt. With 28 games left to play, Stockholm could reach a potential 67 points. Given that they'll probably lose another game or two, a 64 point season is looking like a realistic finish for the team. For them to make the playoffs, they would still need one of the teams ahead of them to drop off. It wouldn't be too farfetched to see it happen, but then there is one other obstacle for them.

The HC Davos Dynamo are still seven points ahead of Stockholm, and even if the Vikings can pass either the Reign or Express (a likelihood, at this point), they will still need to watch out for the Dynamo. Although Davos has lost ten in a row, they are still Stockholm's biggest concern when it comes to making the playoffs this season.
