Titans on a Roll

Having now played 44 games of the regular season, the Helsinki Titans are looking strong as Season 41 inches toward the trade deadline. The Titans currently sit at the top of the European Conference with 62 points, and 3rd overall in the league behind the New York Americans and the Quebec City Meute who have 73 and 65 points, respectively.

Although many believed that the Titans goaltender, Kimmo Salo, would be holding them back this season, he has performed surprisingly well. His 0.922 SV% puts him above the likes of New York's Brick Wahl, Seattle's rookie netminder Niklaus Mikaelson, and Quebec goalie Brock Waldron. His 1.82 GAA is equally as surprising, however with a beast defenseman like Don Draper in front of him that is probably to be expected.

Speaking of Don Draper, the young Captain has certainly been playing a notch above where he has been the last few seasons. He currently leads the Titans in scoring with 47 points, just barely above Naomi Young who sits at 44 points. This season could be a sign of things to come for Draper, as he seems to be improving upon his previous dismal seasons.

Oskars Harumpf, a young Titans rookie and Assistant Captain, hasn't put up the best numbers in his rookie season but still remains has a strong prospect for the future of the Titans. Joining a team as strong as Helsinki at such a young age didn't give Harumpf as much room to show off compared to other rookies like Sachimo Zoidberg, but in the long-run Harumpf will learn a lot and in the coming seasons we expect him to grow into a fantastic centreman.

Moving on to the second Assistant Captain on Helsinki, James Faraday is now in his second VHL season and is poised to move up to the first line next season pending the departure of veteran winger Willem Janssen. Despite his growth being plateaued for some time, Faraday is once again making consistent progress and his 42 points this season puts him near a point per game.

Finally, we talk about the Helsinki winger turned defenseman Chris Raymond. Despite the position switch taking its toll on Raymond's stat line, he has remained positive and without regret that he made the switch, as it was for the good of the entire team. The important thing to remember, though, is that Raymond can only go up from here. This was his first season as a defender and he is clearly still adjusting, but now that he is focusing on his defensive training it won't be long until Raymond is a solid defender for the Titans.

In conclusion, if this season is any indicator, the Titans have recovered from the turmoil and uncertainty that have plagued them for several seasons now. Through everything from the abrupt retirement of the young former Captain, Vojceck Svoboda, to the unreliability of goaltender Kimmo Salo, the Titans have come out strong and pose a very serious threat to the rest of the league both this season and seasons to come.

Content: 3/3 - It's interesting how Salo is performing well this season with a lower tpe toal, probably partially due to having a solid defense and partially due to some luck. Titans are looking good this season and it will be an exciting 3 way race in the Euro Conference!
