Turku, Finland (AP) -- To say that it has been an interesting first week in the VHLM for Turku Outlaws goaltender Hans Wingate would be an understatement. First, Wingate was contacted by the Saskatoon Wild, and he was sure to be their goalie. Then, he was claimed on waivers by the Oslo Storm, and he was sure to be their goalie. Then, he was traded for by the Turku Outlaws, and he was sure to be their goalie.

So, at the end of the day, Hans Wingate is… nobody’s starting goalie?

Soon after trading for Wingate, the Turku franchise also traded for Callum Sinclair, expected to be a lottery selection in the upcoming Season 42 Draft. Rather than get down about his circumstances, though, Wingate vows to keep his head up moving forward.

“Why would I be sad?” Wingate asked reporters after a recent game. “I’m still raw, and frankly, being on a playoff team and getting that winning experience is more important to me than playing time right now. I have the opportunity to learn behind Callum, I can work on my skills a bit more before next season, and I’m on a team that is going for it all this year. I’m fine with what’s happening here.”

As the trading deadline has passed, Wingate is now on Turku for the long haul. The team is second in the conference, but can it make a run for the championship? Only time will tell.
