Senior Admin Will 4,660 Posted April 12, 2015 Senior Admin Share Posted April 12, 2015 Helsinki vs. Cologne The Season 42 VHL Playoffs are now well underway, with the semi-finals currently being battled out in each conference. In North America, you have the New York Americans leading the series with three wins over Quebec City's two wins. In Europe, we have the Cologne Express leading the series with three wins over Helsinki's two wins. Obviously, these are two close and exciting series'. As exciting as it is, however, a close series such as this was much expected in North America, with Quebec and New York battling it out for the top spot throughout the regular season. vs. In contrast, I don't think many expected Cologne to come out as strong as they have against the Titans, who led the European Conference with great ease all season. Of course some of Cologne's regular season woes can be attributed to the fact that they played with a gap in their roster up until the trade deadline when they plugged it with Robin Gow, but still, their star players Truly, in O'Malley and Richardson even seemed to struggle for the greater portion of the season. As they always say, though, the regular season means nothing in VHL Playoffs. The Express came out strong in their first series, decisively sweeping the Stockholm Vikings to move onto the semi-finals where Helsinki was anxiously awaiting their arrival. Against Helsinki, Cologne came out with a drive to win once again. The first two games, played in Helsinki, were split with each team taking home a 2-0 victory. The series moved to Cologne for the next two games, where the Express were able to snag two victories of the Titans to give them a 3-1 series lead. Game 5, back in Helsinki, went to the Titans in an overtime victory to keep them alive. We go back to Cologne tonight for game six. Will this be the end of the Titans? I hope not. Helsinki hasn't even been playing too poorly, except that one game where they let SOB Robin Gow get like 100 shots. Truly, though, Cologne has just been playing very well. Goaltender Martin Brookside, in particular, has played phenomenally for the Express so far this playoffs. Will it be enough, though? Going into Game 6 tonight, it's do or die for Helsinki. If they can get their shit together and play the way we know they can, there is still opportunity to turn this series around. Express goaltender Martin Brookside as he deflects a puck. We reached out to Helsinki Assistant Captain Oskars Harumpf for comment on the playoff series thus far: "Well, I think we've been playing fairly well but we just need to buckle down and give it our all. We've out-shot the Express in 5 out of 6 games, and in many of those games it was by a large margin.
