Draft Day: Picks 1-5

With another uneventful VHL trade deadline coming and going, the upcoming season forty-five VHL draft has become a bit more clear. Although there might be more movement in the off-season regarding draft picks, the draft seems be favour the Helsinki Titans and the New York Americans who hold six of the ten picks in the first round. Today we'll take a look at the draft without taking into account the lottery and see what prospect might end up where.

1. Helsinki

Current General Manager William Shaw is a rich man right now in the VHL. Thanks to the prior management setting up Shaw nicely as well as Shaw making the right moves at the right time, Helsinki will end up with three of the top four draft choices. Helsinki have needs in every position, so who they choose with their top pick will come down to preference. We expect Shaw to pick up a franchise goaltender in Greg Clegane. Clegane will have close to 300 practise hours by the time he hits the VHL ice surface next season, so picking him up at number one would be a brilliant option.

2. Riga

The Riga Reign should end up in the top four picks squeezed in between the three Titans picks. With the Reign rebuild in full swing, the team has a few more pieces in the cupboard than their European rivals in Helsinki. The one position that is currently lacking in Riga is defense, so we expect the Reign to select one of the franchise defenseman with their first pick. With Phil Hamilton and Biggu Kyanon up for grabs, the Reign couldn’t go wrong with either player.

3. Helsinki

The Titans will again head to the podium for another selection. Again here believe that Shaw will shore up his defensive core and select the left-over defenseman from the Reign selection. Thanks to the strength of the draft class in season forty-five, the Titans will get another franchise player with their second pick in the draft. One of Hamilton or Kyanon will be wearing the blue and silver of the Titans in season forty-six.

4. Helsinki

The P.A. system at the VHL draft might begin to sound like a broken record at this point and time, but the Titans will be again announced as the franchise on the clock. With their defense and goal-tending taken care of already in the draft, the Titans will switch their focus to adding some help to their offensive core. With prospect Aleski Koppnen already signed to the club, the team will likely look to add a winger to the fold. Right Wing Evgeny Nezhmetdinov has been progressing nicely in the past season and his great play has caught the attention of many teams. If he's not chosen by the Titans in the top four, look for Nezhmetdinov not to stay too long on the draft board.

5. New York

The New York Americans round out the top five, as they continue to improve on the season and look to be headed back to the VHL playoffs after a two year absence. A year removed from picking Edwin Reecarnacion with the top draft pick, the Americans will be looking to add another corner-piece to their roster. The club has quality players in every position, that is except for the goal-tending position. After picking up Jax Barnstormer from the Stockholm Vikings in season forty-two off-season, Barnstormer was expected to be the franchise goaltender. With Barnstormer not progressing the way the Americans wished and an influx of goalies available, we expect the Americans to pick up Sandro Clegane. Clegane isn't quite the goalie his brother Greg is at this point of his career, but with that shouldn't stop the Americans from starting from scratch at the goalie position and picking up the younger Clegane.

Content 3/3 - Good stuff here. I have always enjoyed looking over mocks, and there is a lot of good insight here. It'll be interesting to see how the picks pan out in the lottery. Hopefully we don't see Helsinki going 1-2-3 in the draft, but even if they do we'll probably see the same positions going where you have them, so that's pretty cool.

Grammar 2/2 - Nothing but some grammar crap for the sake of having something here...

what prospect might end up where -> what prospects might end up where
goal-tending -> goaltending

Appearance 1/1 - Team logos count for pictures and therefore this looks good!
