Childhood

Jeff Hamilton was born in 1994 in London and raised in Gerrard's Cross, England with his family of six. Hamilton grew up in a quaint country house built by his great-grandfather. The Hamilton's father was a factory worker and worker hard to provide for the family. He was a traditional man who didn't take kindly to any of his three son's playing hockey, but nevertheless it was what it was. All three of the boys had to make their own unique ways in life and in a terrific feat, they all ran down the road of professional hockey. Most notably, the Victory Hockey League.

As a young lad, Hamilton was the middle brother of David (26), and Phil (18). Being the middle child comes with an interesting perspective. The three boys were rough and tumble, but they were athletes through and through. Interestingly enough, the youngest brother Phil was actually the first to play hockey at the age of 10 when he decided it was a good idea to play hockey instead of their father's beloved soccer. Phil joined a league in London and quickly became one of the worst players on the ice having started so late into his childhood. It was the eldest David who was sent to accompany Phil on his trips into London on the train with his hockey gear. The middle child Jeff was largely left out of the picture. Being the competitive boys that they are however, the other two Hamilton's tried hockey on their own terms.

"Bleeding hell! I was angry enough when me one damn son told me he wanted to play this game on ice called hockey, but when the other two came to me I had just about had it up to here with them. I told them boys they'd have to be paying their own way in this hockey business. They agreed and off they went to work in the grocery store," Hamilton's father said.

Jeff began to tag along with his brothers to the rink and quickly he developed a penchant for skating. Being older than Phil allowed Jeff the physical ability to learn the game much quicker. One could say he was a more natural talent and therefore, always the more lazy son, Jeff grew a nose for hockey. Hockey wasn't the only interest for Hamilton though. As previously mentioned, the boys had to make their own way in terms of registration fees, transportation and equipment and thus they went to work in the local grocery store. The boys were soon spending one day in London at the rink and the next day at the grocery store. Needless to say, their grades fell, but Jeff was always a naturally gifted student who could get away with minimal effort and multiple things on the go. Jeff Hamilton was able to graduate high school with above average marks while playing on a junior team in London; he was clearly a multi-tasker.

College

While Jeff's brother Phil was dominating the leagues in London where his brother had gotten his feet wet in the hockey world, Hamilton was busy pursuing a college scholarship for hockey. Unfortunately in England, there isn't much for hockey programs at the university level. That's when Hamilton decided to reach out to universities overseas. Hamilton had a tremendous junior career alongside his brother Phil for one season and he parlayed the Youtube highlights from that single season into a scholarship offer from Boston College in the United States. Of course Jeff Hamilton jumped at the opportunity to live in New England while studying abroad and playing for a very competitive, world-renowned hockey program. Off Hamilton went to Boston College at the tender age of 18, leaving the rest of his brothers behind.

Hamilton was an instant success at Boston College, making the team as a true freshman and showing well enough in his first year to play on the second pairing defense team. He was a natural offensive talent and the coaches utilized him in many different situation, often times up front when required. Despite not having the physical size of his brother Phil, Jeff was an enormous talent. He played there and one lucky day New York Americans special assistant to the General Manager Sterling Labatte happened to be in attendance at one of Hamilton's games. Labatte noted him that day and thought about making a pitch to him to join the VHL, but he held off.

Fast forward to Season 44 and Phil Knight has signed a contract with Jeff's brother Phil. Phil declared for the S45 VHL Entry Draft where he would later go first overall to the Helsinki Titans. Labatte connected the two dots having remembered the name and Gerrard's Cross, England. He went to Boston looking to convince Jeff Hamilton that he needed to forgo his last season at Boston College to sign with him. His brother had just gone first overall in the last draft and Hamilton stood a chance of repeating the same feat in season 46!

"I knew this kid was talented. Perhaps not as talented based on his current skill as his brother, but a talented skater with great vision. I could easily see him going in the top three. The problem was that he valued an education as well. He wouldn't agree simply for a payday. Not yet at least. I convinced Jeff though that he could finish his degree through special permission from the dean and receive an entire scholarship from our agency while playing a season in the VHLM. Thankfully he agreed and had a terrific season for the Bern Royals. Even better than his brother Phil," Labatte stated.

Today

Jeff Hamilton is on the cusp of his draft day. No one is certain where Hamilton will go in the Season 46 VHL Entry Draft. Ideally, the smooth-moving defenseman wants to play with his brother Phil, who compliments his style well. With that said, the likelihood of that happening is quite low. Hamilton may very well land in either Toronto or Seattle in a first pairing role immediately as both franchises attempt to rebuild their rosters. Hamilton is said to be grateful and happy to go anywhere to start his professional career after graduating earlier this year with a degree in business. After a very successful first and likely only season in the VHLM, Hamilton's whole career is ahead of him and the next chapter of this biography awaits to be written.

"I'm not sure where I'll go or where I will end up in terms of a career with hockey, but I'm excited for the opportunity to carve my own path. I'm proud of my brother Phil and excited to see what my brother Dave will accomplish. We may be playing all around the world, but I know the town we call home is watching out for us. We've come a long way in putting the VHL on the London Guardian's sports section's front page instead of that little box score in the back. Maybe one day we'll play together on one line," Jeff Hamilton said.
